They show how something is done. Let&#8217;s start!<\/p>\n<p><strong>01. As\u00ed<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It means basically &#8220;like this&#8221;, &#8220;like that&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><em>Lo har\u00e9 <strong>as\u00ed<\/strong> como me recomendaste.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> No me mires <strong>as\u00ed<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>But it can have some other meanings and fixed expressions:<\/p>\n<p><em>Era un coche <strong>as\u00ed<\/strong> de grande. (showing size)<\/em><br \/>\n<em> \u00a1<strong>As\u00ed<\/strong> te parta un rayo! (showing a wish, or a threat)<\/em><br \/>\n<em> No lo contar\u00e1, <strong>as\u00ed<\/strong> lo maten. (even if)<\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong> As\u00ed<\/strong> no m\u00e1s se puso a gritar conmigo. (just like that)<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Tengo que viajar urgente <strong>as\u00ed<\/strong> que no podr\u00e9 cenar contigo esta noche.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> \u00bfC\u00f3mo est\u00e1s? &#8212; <strong>As\u00ed, as\u00ed.<\/strong> (So-so.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>02. Adverbs ending in -mente<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We use the feminine form of adjectives to form adverbs ending in <em>-mente<\/em> (something like the <em>-ly<\/em> form in English). Remember that we keep the accent in the adverb form. Some examples:<\/p>\n<p><em>h\u00e1bil (skilful) &#8211; h\u00e1bilmente (skilfully)<\/em><br \/>\n<em> cort\u00e9s (gentle) &#8211; cort\u00e9smente (gently)<\/em><br \/>\n<em> verdadera (true) &#8211; verdaderamente (truly)<\/em><br \/>\n<em> simple (simple) &#8211; simplemente (simply)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Some comparative and superlative forms also form adverbs with <em>-mente<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em>mayor &#8211; mayormente<\/em><br \/>\n<em> p\u00e9simo &#8211; p\u00e9simamente<\/em><br \/>\n<em> rapid\u00edsimo &#8211; r\u00e1pid\u00edsimamente<\/em><\/p>\n<p>When there are two adverbs in a sentence only the last one keeps the <em>-mente<\/em> suffix.<\/p>\n<p><em>Hay que punirlos dura y ejemplarmente.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Hablabla dulce, franca y pausadamente.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Adverbs with <em>-mente<\/em> can be replaced by prepositional expressions with <em><strong>con + abstract noun<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em>con atenci\u00f3n &#8211; atenciosamente<\/em><br \/>\n<em> con cari\u00f1o &#8211; cari\u00f1osamente<\/em><\/p>\n<p>There are several mood adverbial expressions (these are so useful for your spoken Spanish!)<\/p>\n<p><em>Nos sirvi\u00f3 a galope. (con rapidez)<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Los visita a menudo. (frecuentemente)<\/em><br \/>\n<em> S\u00f3lo venden al por mayor. (en grandes cuantidades)<\/em><br \/>\n<em> S\u00f3lo venden al por menor. (en peque\u00f1as cuantidades)<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Sali\u00f3 a la francesa. (sin avisar, bruscamente)<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Hizo la tarea en un santiam\u00e9n. (r\u00e1pidamente)<\/em><br \/>\n<em> No lo s\u00e9 de memoria.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Ech\u00f3 a re\u00edrse sin m\u00e1s ni m\u00e1s. (sin raz\u00f3n)<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Te lo har\u00e9 de muy buena gana. (con mucho gusto)<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Lo hizo de mala gana \/ a rega\u00f1adientes. (sin ganas)<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Vive a lo grande. (muy bien)<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Maneja a lo loco. (muy imprudentemente)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>There are some adjetives that become adverbs and they don&#8217;t have the -mente suffix.<\/p>\n<p><em>No hables <strong>alto<\/strong>.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Habla <strong>bajo<\/strong>, por favor.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Golpea <strong>fuerte<\/strong>.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Trabaja <strong>duro<\/strong>.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> La estamos pasando <strong>negras<\/strong>.
