Today our post is about words and expressions we use to talk about phone calls in Spanish. \u00bfEst\u00e1n listos? \u00a1Adelante con los faroles!<\/em><\/p>\n

1. discar \/ marcar<\/strong> – to dial. En caso de emergencia, marque \/disque 190 para pedir ayuda. [In case of emergency, dial 190 for help.]<\/em><\/p>\n

2. atender \/ coger el tel\u00e9fono<\/strong> – to answer the phone. \u00bfPuedes atender \/ coger el tel\u00e9fono, por favor? [Can you answer the phone, please?]<\/em><\/p>\n

3. contestador autom\u00e1tico<\/strong> – answering machine. Pedro dej\u00f3 un mensaje en el contestador autom\u00e1tico de Susana. [Pedro left a message on Susana’s answering machine.]<\/em><\/p>\n

4. llamar de vuelta \/ devolver la llamada<\/strong> – to call back. Tengo que irme. Te llamo de vuelva \/ Te devuelvo la llamada enseguida. [I have to go. I’ll call you back soon.]<\/em><\/p>\n

5. pedir a alguien que devuelva la llamada<\/strong> – to ask someone to call back. Ahora estoy muy ocupado. \u00bfPuedo llamarte de vuelta m\u00e1s tarde? [I’m very busy right now. Can I call you back later?]<\/em><\/p>\n

6. colgar \/ cortar<\/strong> – to hang up. “No corte \/ cuelgue, por favor”, dijo la telefonista. [“Don’t hang up, please”, said the operator.]<\/em><\/p>\n

7. colgarle el tel\u00e9fono en la cara a alguien<\/strong> – to hang up on someone. No puedo creer te haya colgado el tel\u00e9fono en la cara de esa manera. [I can’t believe she hung up on you like that.]<\/em><\/p>\n

8. se cort\u00f3 la llamada<\/strong> – the call got cut off. Estaba hablando con Jorge y la llamada se cort\u00f3. [I was talking to Jorge and we got cut off.]<\/em><\/p>\n

9. interno (Argentina) \/ extensi\u00f3n (Espa\u00f1a)<\/strong> – extension. Usted se ha comunicado con GRS & Asociados. Por favor, disque el interno, aguarde para ser atendido, o pulse tres para dejar un mensaje despu\u00e9s de la se\u00f1al. [You have reached GRS & Asociados. 10. llamada de larga distancia<\/strong> – long distance call. Necesito hacer una llamada de larga distancia. \u00bfSabr\u00edas decirme si hay alg\u00fan tel\u00e9fono p\u00fablico cerca? [I need to make a long distance call. Could you tell me if there’s a public phone nearby?]<\/em><\/p>\n

11. tel\u00e9fono celular \/ m\u00f3vil<\/strong> – cell phone. \u00bfHas visto mi celular? No s\u00e9 d\u00f3nde lo dej\u00e9. [Have you seen my cell phone? I don’t know where I left it.]<\/em><\/p>\n
