La semana pasada repasamos vocabulario sobre arte en espa\u00f1ol<\/a>\u00a0y hablamos\u00a0de la artista mexicana Frida Kahlo<\/a>. Esta semana presentaremos a Joaqu\u00edn Torres Garc\u00eda<\/strong> (1874-1949), pintor uruguayo-espa\u00f1ol nacido en Montevideo. Vivi\u00f3 cerca de\u00a0Barcelona durante su vida adulta y fue contempor\u00e1neo de Pablo Picasso<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Last week we reviewed\u00a0vocabulary on Spanish art and we talked about Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. This week we introduce Joaqu\u00edn Torres Garc\u00eda (1874-1949), Uruguayan-Spanish painter born in Montevideo. He lived near Barcelona during his adult life\u00a0and was a contemporary of Pablo Picasso.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Buscaba transmitir un mensaje a trav\u00e9s de signos<\/strong> que admitieran lecturas libres<\/strong> de subjetividad.<\/strong>\u00bb<\/p>\n

According to Wikipedia, “Torres Garcia devoted his work\u00a0to\u00a0search for a way to express<\/strong> reality\u00a0in concepts<\/strong>, in simplified forms<\/strong> of this same reality. He sought to convey a message through signs that could\u00a0be read free of subjectivity<\/strong>. “<\/p>\n

En 1942 comenz\u00f3 el Taller Torres Garc\u00eda<\/a>. \u00a0Quer\u00eda ense\u00f1ar una pintura estrictamente planista<\/strong> basada en el plano de color<\/strong>, la l\u00ednea<\/strong> y la geometr\u00eda<\/strong>, determinando la unidad de la obra<\/strong> por medio de una estructura realizada con la regla \u00e1urea<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In 1942 he began the Torres Garc\u00eda Workshop. He wanted to teach a strictly Planist<\/strong> painting, based on the plane of color<\/strong>, line<\/strong> and geometry<\/strong>, determining the unity of the work<\/strong> by a structure made according to\u00a0the golden rule<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
