I’m pretty sure the Swedish Chef is from the Muppet Show :’D

  2. Joy Schumacher:

Great list… but I have one correction. The Swedish Chef was never on Sesame Street. He was on The Muppet Show.

  3. Joel Williams:

I can not believe you didn’t list Saab….. ONe could argue they’re Dutch, but I guess Volvo is Chinese…..

  4. Matteo:

Socialism is not Swedish, neither in the theory nor in practice (There are arguably countries were the social state is stronger)…plus one needs to make place for bandy, which it’s a must in any list of Swedish things.
“Lagom” is not a thing but it’s the Swedish-est thing of them all, I’ll drop snow for the list for that.
Also, snabbmakkaroni, samlor, Lättöl and andra hand lägenhet…people, come on! 🙂

    Har det bra,

    Matteo

  5. Angela:

That looks like a pretty good list! If I asked my father to name Swedish things, he’s probably start naming hockey players.

The Swedish Chef was from The Muppet Show, but since it’s all Jim Henson’s work- close enough. 🙂

  6. goldvisa:

Wait a sec, what about the horse? I’m not remotely Swedish, but even I know about the horse. Maybe it was number 16.

  7. Isuru:

    Lagom
    Fika
    Ice Hokey

    🙂

  8. Dionne:

I agree with most of these but would also add:
    Lagom
    Kräftor
    Skansen
    Midsommar

  9. mina:

    no köttbullar!?

  10. Matteo:

My comment on this post went lost somewhere in the internet, but I agree with everyone here that there is not thing more Swedish than “lagom”.

Bandy (and by association Innebandy) should be in, as samlor, snabbmakkaroni and Lättöl. Dalahäst is also something I associate to something typical Swedish, rather than Socialism, which I don’t get in the list. Theoretically it has no Scandinavian origin and there are arguably stronger social states than Sweden. Same for snow.

Fika is another great Swedish thing, I don’t know how I could forget it before.

The first words I’ve learn in Swedish though were tvättstuga and andra hand lägenhet. The latter maybe is only a Stockholm thing, though…

  11. Efrutik:

wow so Absolut vodka is not Russia 🙁 I thought it was Russian. Definitely agree about IKEA and Abba 🙂

  12. Anton85@nyc.rr.com:

The Swedish Chef wasn’t on Sesame Street, but here’s something Swedish that was, at least partly:

This series, “Five Ants are More than Four Elephants,” was inspired by Sesame Street and some of its animated segments appeared on Sesame Street, but I need more info about the deal between their producers and CTW.

Here are two more interesting things about Sweden: they outlawed corporal punishment and they also eat their pasta with ketchup.
