Today\u2019s topic \u2013 reflectors. The kind you wear on your clothing.<\/p>\n<p>Now, don\u2019t laugh! This is actually a serious matter. You think you\u2019ve seen dark, but unless you\u2019re from Alaska, you haven\u2019t seen real dark. The kind of dark that comes at 2PM and wants to eat your soul by 5 in the afternoon. The kind of dark that requires an additional set of headlights for your car. (No, I am not joking.)<\/p>\n<p>Yet even with all the headlights in the world, it still can be very difficult to see people, especially if said people wear dark clothing, or ride bikes in the dark.<\/p>\n<p>You think I\u2019m exaggerating? <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ntf.se\/\" target=\"_blank\">Nationalf\u00f6reningen f\u00f6r Trafiks\u00e4kerhetens Fr\u00e4mjande<\/a><\/strong> (The National Society for Road Safety) doesn\u2019t think so. They agree that using proper personal reflectors is very important.<\/p>\n<p>You will often see kids with shiny plastic gizmos hanging on their jackets, yet their parents are almost invisible in their dark winter coats. Or you will see an adult with a snap-on reflective band, yet the dog they are walking is invisible against the dark. Or you will see a woman with a reflective vest, but the baby carriage she\u2019s pushing is black against black.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/swedish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2009\/01\/baby-carriage-reflexive.jpg\" aria-label=\"Baby Carriage Reflexive\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-144\"  alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/swedish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2009\/01\/baby-carriage-reflexive.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/swedish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2009\/01\/baby-carriage-reflexive.jpg 400w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/swedish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2009\/01\/baby-carriage-reflexive-350x263.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<em> Baby carriage with a glow-in-the-dark cover and a little fella dressed for a safe evening walk.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I had never realized just how important personal reflectors were until I started driving in <strong>Norrland<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Did you know that:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><strong>Om du har m\u00f6rka kl\u00e4der uppt\u00e4cker en bil med halvljus dig p\u00e5 20-30 meters avst\u00e5nd och om du har ljusa kl\u00e4der syns du fr\u00e5n 60 meter. Om du b\u00e4r reflex ser bilen dig redan p\u00e5 125 meters avst\u00e5nd.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><em>(If you wear dark clothes you are noticed by a driver from the distance of about 20-30 meters, with light clothes \u2013 from 60 meters, but when you have a reflector, you can be seen from 125 meters.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, the <strong>NTF<\/strong> webpage is a virtual goldmine of information. All you need to know about reflective items, vests and clothing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ntf.se\/konsument\/reflexer\/default.asp?RecID=10104\" target=\"_blank\">can be found on their site<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And if you don\u2019t know where to purchase a reflective snap-on band or a cute hangy-thingy for your child, head to your nearest <strong>Apoteket<\/strong> (pharmacy). They have a wide selection of all sorts of snazzy reflectors for kids and adults. And while you\u2019re at it, don\u2019t forget about your dog, especially if you\u2019re using an extendable leash.
