And darn, this year I won\u2019t be able to go. I went in 2005 when the market celebrated its 400-year anniversary, and let me tell you, it was really something. Unfortunately, I lost my camera that time&#8230; And finding a place to stay was almost impossible. Normally, all the hotels and rooms in private homes are booked well in advance. Yes, the market is THAT popular.<\/p>\n<p>I just called the <strong>Jokkmokk<\/strong> tourist office to see how\u2019s it\u2019s going this year, and they told me the town is pretty much fully booked.<\/p>\n<p>Why is the event so popular? This is THE <strong>Sami<\/strong> market in the world. And like I mentioned before, it\u2019s been going on for more than 400 years. If you are interested in the <strong>Sami<\/strong> culture, there is no better place to visit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/swedish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2009\/01\/j_m.jpg\" aria-label=\"J M\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-146\"  alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"324\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/swedish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2009\/01\/j_m.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/swedish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2009\/01\/j_m.jpg 400w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/swedish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2009\/01\/j_m-350x284.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<em> photo: <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jokkmokkguiderna.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jokkmokk guiderna<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>I am particularly upset that I can\u2019t go this year, because one of my favorite Swedish indie bands \u2013 <strong>Mollet<\/strong> will be playing at the market.<\/p>\n<p>Mollet are six <strong>Sami<\/strong> guys from <strong>Kiruna<\/strong>, who play what can be described as \u201cgarage <strong>jojk<\/strong>\u201d or indigenous rock. And yes, they also sing in the <strong>Sami<\/strong> language.<\/p>\n<p>They will be playing at the <strong>Jokkmokk<\/strong> market on February 6th at 10PM.<br \/>\nYou can check out their music on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/molletmusic\" target=\"_blank\">their myspace page<\/a>.
