Before we move on to something more exciting, let&#8217;s finish off what I started last week with <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/swedish\/same-same-but-anda-different\/\"><strong>\u00c4N, \u00c4ND\u00c5, \u00c4NNU<\/strong> och <\/a><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/swedish\/same-same-but-anda-different\/\">FORTFARANDE<\/a>.<\/strong> Fortfarande \u00a0and \u00e4nnu are\u00a0the words of today and I\u00a0had to consult our great langugae expert\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/swedish\/there-is-no-such-thing-as-bad-weather-only-bad-clothes-part-one\/\">Tibor<\/a> on this one, not even the natives are certain of the differences between these two, be sure about that! And to be fair, there isn&#8217;t much of a difference in today&#8217;s Swedish. But let&#8217;s be good students and learn the tiny difference there is:<\/p>\n<p><strong>FORTFARANDE = STILL<\/strong><br \/>\nEX: \u00c4r du <strong>fortfarande <\/strong>h\u00e4r? = Are you <strong>still <\/strong>here?<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\n\u00c4NNU = YET<\/strong><br \/>\nEX: Jag har <strong>\u00e4nnu<\/strong>\u00a0inte varit i Sverige = I have not <strong>yet<\/strong>\u00a0been to Sweden.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c4NNU is normally used in a negative sentence, but to make things easy (or confusing?), you can use either of the words in both sentences above. But the content of the sentence can change slightly depending on which word you use:<\/p>\n<p>EX: Polisen har inte hittat\u00a0m\u00f6rdaren <strong>\u00e4nnu<\/strong>\u00a0= The police have not found the killer <strong>yet<\/strong><br \/>\nThis indicates that the police have not found the killer yet but there might be a breakthrough soon.<\/p>\n<p>EX: Polisen har <strong>fortfarande<\/strong> inte hittat m\u00f6rdaren = The police <strong>still<\/strong> haven&#8217;t found the killer<br \/>\nI can hear a criticism here, can you?<\/p>\n<p>EX: Hon har inte \u00e4tit <strong>\u00e4nnu<\/strong> = She hasn&#8217;t eaten <strong>yet<\/strong><br \/>\nBut she will, when dinner is served.<\/p>\n<p>EX: Hon \u00e4ter <strong>fortfarande<\/strong> inte = She <strong>still<\/strong> hasn&#8217;t eaten<br \/>\nBecause she is ill, is on a hunger strike&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Make sense?<\/p>\n<p>Well, here&#8217;s\u00a0a rule of thumb-sentence\u00a0to remember regarding FORTFARANDE och \u00c4NNU:<br \/>\nJag har <strong>fortfarande <\/strong>inte l\u00e4rt mig det h\u00e4r men jag ger inte upp <strong>\u00e4nnu<\/strong>!<br \/>\nI <strong>still<\/strong> haven&#8217;t learnt this but I&#8217;m not giving up\u00a0<strong>yet!<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New\u00a0week and new Swedish words, grammar and phrases to study!
