In Stockholm, snow has been on the ground since before Christmas and we&#8217;re supposed to get another snow storm tomorrow. So here&#8217;s some wintery vocabulary that you&#8217;ll surely need if you are living in Sweden.<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nWintery Vocab<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sn\u00f6 <\/strong>-Snow<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sn\u00f6fall &#8211;<\/strong> You can figure this one out, right?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pudersn\u00f6 <\/strong>&#8211; Literally powder snow. The kind that is good for skiing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kramsn\u00f6 <\/strong>&#8211; Wet snow that is perfect for making snowballs and snowmen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kyla<\/strong> &#8211; The noun for cold, for example: Nu kommer kylan (Here comes the cold)&#8230;people usually says this when the first winter weather of the year comes. The newspapers flash that phrase in their headlines too.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-357\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/swedish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2010\/01\/ayre-061-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But be careful <strong>kylig,<\/strong> which means chilly, is warmer than <strong>kallt<\/strong>, which means cold. So it can become kyligt on a late June night, but not on a freezing cold January morning. Nope, a freezing cold January morning\u00a0would be considered\u00a0kall or <strong>svinkall,<\/strong> literally translated as swine cold, (not to be mistaken with the swine flu).<\/p>\n<p><strong>K\u00f6ldkn\u00e4pp<\/strong> &#8211; When the temperature drops sharply and fast. For example: P\u00e5 julafton kom en k\u00f6ldkn\u00e4pp.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Is<\/strong> &#8211; Ice<\/p>\n<p><strong>Isbana<\/strong> &#8211; Ice rink<\/p>\n<p><strong>Skridskor<\/strong> &#8211; Ice skates<\/p>\n<p><strong>Skidor<\/strong> &#8211; Skis<\/p>\n<p><strong>Att \u00e5ka skidor<\/strong> &#8211; To go skiing. For example: Vi ska \u00e5ka till Alperna for att \u00e5ka skidor. (We&#8217;re going to the Alps to go skiing).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/swedish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2010\/01\/cold-bathing-007.jpg\" aria-label=\"Cold Bathing 007 300x225\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-359\"  alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/ src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/swedish\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2010\/01\/cold-bathing-007-300x225.jpg\"><\/a><strong>Kallbada &#8211;<\/strong> Cold bathing.<strong> <\/strong>The crazy ( I love it) act of alternating between a hot sauna, <strong>bastu<\/strong>, and a hole cut in the ice of a freezing cold body of water. (Sorry about the scary picture, but I had to prove that I&#8217;d done it).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Varm choklad med vispgr\u00e4dde<\/strong> &#8211; What you want to drink when you come in from the kylan.
