We’ve been posting a word of the day over on our Facebook page (if you haven’t be sure to head over there and check it out, it’s a great way to keep your vocab growing!), but themed vocab lists can be super helpful when trying to learn Swedish, or any language for that matter. This one, for lack of creativity, will be a summer theme.

I’ve gone ahead and included the en and ett in parentheses. You’ll notice that the vast majority of the nouns take the en form. This is how it usually is. Yes, there’s not rule for en or ett, you just need to know it, but when in doubt… guess en. Without further ado, here are 25 (hopefully) useful summer vocabulary words.

(en) baddräkt / (en) simdräkt

swimsuit

(en) bikini

bikini

(en) blomma

flower

(en) glass

ice cream

(en) midsommar

midsummer

(en) promenad

walk or stroll

(en) segelbåt

sailboat

(en) semester

vacation

(en) skärgården

archipelago

(en) sol

sun

(en) solskyddskräm

sunscreen

(en) sommar

summer

(en) strand

beach

(en) uteservering

outdoor seating

(ett) regn

regnet

(ett) solsken

sunshine

att bada

to swim (also, to bathe)

att segla

to sail

att simma

to swim

juni

June

juli

July

augusti

August

luftkonditionering

air conditioning

svettig

sweaty

varm

hot

What is your favorite summer word in Swedish?
