I can\u2019t say how many times I\u2019ve thought \u201chad it been a snake it would have bitten me\u201d, in other words, the object I was looking for was much closer than I thought. I thought I would share how to ask, in Swedish, where things are and of course equip you so you can answer as well.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s start slow and steady.<\/p>\n

\u201cVar \u00e4r _<\/strong>pennan<\/strong><\/span>_?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201c_<\/strong>Pennan<\/strong><\/span>_ \u00e4r\u00a0 _<\/strong>bakom<\/strong><\/span>_ _<\/strong>koppen<\/strong><\/span>_.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWhere is the _pen<\/span>_?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe_pen<\/span>_ is\u00a0 _behind<\/span>_ the _cup<\/span>_.\u201d<\/p>\n

This sentence structure does not change, you only need to exchange the words in the different groups. The purple group is for example the thing you can\u2019t find or see. Green group describes where <\/em>that object is in relation to another object you can <\/em>see, the pink group.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ll try it again just so you get the idea.<\/p>\n

The next thing is to be able to ask a question. So the only thing that changes is where the verb is placed.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u00c4ter_<\/strong>barnen<\/strong><\/span>_\u00a0 _<\/strong>i<\/strong><\/span>_ _<\/strong>skolan<\/strong><\/span>_?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIs the_pen<\/span>_\u00a0 _behind<\/span>_ the _cup<\/span>_?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIs the_glas<\/span>_\u00a0 _to the left of<\/span>_ the _book<\/span>_?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDo the_children<\/span>_ eat _in<\/span>_ _school<\/span>_?\u201d<\/p>\n

One thing to be remembered in this situation is that all the while you are talking about one specific noun. So the noun has to be \u00e4pplet <\/strong>instead of \u00e4pple<\/strong>. Barnen <\/strong>instead of barn <\/strong>and so forth, because you don\u2019t want to get an answer about korean children when you really want to know where your own children are eating.<\/p>\n

The words in the table below are “location words” which you put in just like in the example sentences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
