Of course, if you’re in the US, it can sometimes be tough to get your hands on Swedish language sources. Luckily, there’s the internet. That you can find Swedish language stuff online, no matter where in the world you are, isn’t new. This post isn’t about learning a new technique to learning Swedish, instead, this post has collected a bunch of online Swedish newspaper sites that can help you with your language skills, but also keep you up-to-date on Swedish culture.

In Sweden, newspapers that come out at least once a week are referred to as dagstidningar. There are two different types, those that come out in the morning and those that come out in the evening. Some of these newspapers are completely regional, others can be found throughout the country.

Morgontidningar are the newspapers (tidningar) that come out in the morning (morgon). There is a long list of newspapers that fall under this category. Below you will find links to some of the bigger morgontidningar in Sweden:

National:

Dagens Industri (this one is heavily focused on financial and economic news)

Dagens Nyheter

Svenska Dagbladet

Regional:

Dalarnas Tidningar

Göteborgs-Posten

Helsingborgs Dagblad

Nerikes Allehanda (you may have heard of this one due to the controversy surrounding their printing cartoon depictions of the Muslim Prophet Mohammed)

Skånska Dagbladet

Sydsvenskan

Upsala Nya Tidning

Västerbottens-Kuriren

Östgöta Correspondenten

Free:

Metro (this paper actually has three different regional variations and can usually be found anywhere there is a train)

Kvällstidningar are just what you would expect – newspapers (tidningar) that come out in the evening (kväll). There are two main papers in this category and both mix a bit of tabloid news with a bit of hard-hitting journalism (I would argue that some of the sports reporting in these newspapers is far better than what you would find in the other newspapers for example):

Aftonbladet

Expressen

And finally, the plus one. 8 SIDOR. 8 SIDOR is a newspaper specifically designed to be easy to read. It’s an amazing tool for people just getting into the Swedish language. The website is super easy to use and the articles include just about all of the major headlines throughout Sweden. You’ll even find some international news. If you’re still working on your reading skills, this is a great place to start!

Good luck everyone! This is, of course, not a complete list so if I missed your favorite Swedish-language newspaper, please leave a comment below.

One important aspect of learning a language is reading.
