December means that the jul-vibes are copious in many countries! Sweden is no exception. When strolling through town, you\u2019ll see lights, decorations, and hear sweet Christmas tunes pumped out of speakers to get folks in the holiday mood. Because it\u2019s the first Tuesday of the month, that means that this blog post is going to be about music. So, what better focus for the Swedish language blog in December than <\/span>julmusik<\/span><\/i>?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Much like in the U.S., Swedes have a few classic Christmas songs that just about everyone knows and loves…until you can\u2019t get them out of your head!\u00a0 Below are some Swedish translations of more solemn Christmas classics that you\u2019ll probably recognize:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>Hej tomtegubbar<\/span><\/a>” loosely translates to \u201cHello tomte-men\u201d and is a c<\/span>lassic children’s song, while at the same time a popular drinking song!<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNu \u00e4r det jul igen<\/a>,” “Now it is Christmas Again\u201d is best sung in a group while holding hands and singing together, spinning in a circle and singing faster and faster! This clip is from Ingmar Bergman’s film Fanny and Alexander.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Julkonserter<\/em>, Christmas concerts, showcase a great mix of playful and the more serious juls\u00e5nger<\/em>. <\/span>Luciadagen<\/span><\/i>, or Lucia Day on December 13, is one such example. SVT has been broadcasting a Lucia concert every year since the 1950\u2019s, rotating the location each year. Over a million people will tune in to the broadcast of the Lucia concert this year from Gr\u00e4nna, a small town near J\u00f6nk\u00f6ping. Known for its idyllic streets and shops that feature handmade polkagrisar, or candy canes, this feels like a great fit for this year’s host city.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sankta Lucia<\/span><\/a> (Natten g\u00e5r tunga fj\u00e4t), is the classic Lucia song performed here by <\/span>Annica Risberg.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
