God jul<\/span><\/i>, folks! This year for Christmas I\u2019m giving you all the gift of web resources! The internet is truly a magical place nowadays for language study, but there is a lot out there and it can be hard to sort it all out. Below, you\u2019ll find some of my favorite web resources for grammar, pronunciation, and media. <\/span>N\u00e4men<\/span><\/i>, Chelsea you shouldn\u2019t have! Well, I did and it\u2019s quite lengthy, so enjoy!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

First, you must have a reliable, go-to online language dictionary. Of course there\u2019s Google Translate, which most folks default to because it\u2019s fast and easy. But truthfully, I only recommend this tool for cross-reference among intermediate to advanced speakers. It tends to over-complicate beginning vocabulary and basic grammar so you end up writing a bunch of things that sound funny, instead of taking the time to use and stretch the vocab that you do have. Instead, I recommend <\/span>Tyda,<\/span><\/a> Folkets lexikon<\/span><\/i><\/a> and<\/span> Bab.la<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Most of you have probably been on YouTube to practice Swedish<\/strong>. It\u2019s endless, <\/span>eller hur? <\/span><\/i>Here are some channels I\u2019ve found to be helpful:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Svenska spr\u00e5ket,<\/span><\/i><\/a> Svenska med Lisa<\/span><\/i><\/a>,<\/span><\/i> \u00a0Sweden.se<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>GoSwedish<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0 <\/span>SvenskaBarnS\u00e5ngerTV<\/span><\/i><\/a>, <\/span><\/i>Busigt L\u00e4rande<\/span><\/i><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

My favorite for beginners is <\/span>Svenska f\u00f6r alla<\/span><\/i><\/a>; themes include, food preparation, apartment, at the store, and more! Also, if you are looking for a throwback, the <\/span>Vi ses vi h\u00f6rs series<\/span><\/i><\/a> is QUITE dated but has some great, \u201ceveryday Swedish\u201d content.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Language acquisition means studying often and with intention. Working Swedish into your daily routine is sometimes difficult but it\u2019s really important. Integrating content that you are genuinely passionate about<\/strong> will help tremendously. Big music fan? Film buff? Politics junkie? Spoiler alert – all of those things exists in Swedish!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Chelsea\u2019s <\/span>Intro to Swedish Music<\/span><\/a> Spotify List is great for learning about music written in Swedish.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>SVTplay.se <\/span><\/a>has many different categories of programming, some are available outside of Sweden, some aren\u2019t, just click around!\u00a0 <\/span>TV4.se<\/span><\/a>, is great if you are located in Sweden,<\/span> S\u00e5 mycket b\u00e4ttre<\/span><\/i><\/a> is my <\/span>absolut favorit program <\/span><\/i>there.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I love to use Sveriges Utbildningsradio<\/em> in my teaching<\/span>. <\/b>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Grammatikbolaget<\/span><\/i><\/a> has really quirky videos for grammar explanations and <\/span>Geografens Europag\u00e5tor<\/span><\/i><\/a> is a fun way for advanced-beginner and intermediate students to learn new vocab.\u00a0 Check out UR skol<\/em>a and UR Spr\u00e5kplay<\/em> as well.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Do be fooled by this old school appearance, there are loads of topics and level to sift through on <\/span>Digitala Sp\u00e5re<\/span><\/i>t.<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Lexin Bildteman<\/span><\/i><\/a> is an AWESOME way to practice vocab. The content is a touch dated as well my students love it because of the visuals and pronunciation help.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

L\u00e4sa l\u00e4tt<\/span><\/i><\/a> is great for slow pronunciation help, as well as <\/span>Mot m\u00e5let<\/span><\/i><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Most Swedish newspaper websites limit your access to just a few articles a month like\u00a0 <\/span>Dagens nyheter<\/span><\/i><\/a>, <\/span><\/i>Expressen<\/span><\/i><\/a>, <\/span><\/i>Svenska dagbladet<\/span><\/i><\/a>, <\/span><\/i>and<\/span> Sydsvenskan.<\/span><\/i><\/a><\/p>\n

For easy-to-read Swedish, visit <\/span>8sidor.se<\/span><\/a>, for short and sweet articles including Swedish and world news. Additionally, <\/span>Kreativ pedagogik <\/span><\/a>writes discussion questions for daily news from 8sidor.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Nyheter p\u00e5 l\u00e4tt svenska<\/b><\/a> from SVT is great for easy-to-understand news.\u00a0 Here you\u2019ll find more<\/span> l\u00e4ttl\u00e4sta books<\/span><\/a> and short stories.<\/span><\/p>\n

For general information on Swedish society and life in Sweden, visit <\/span>Information Sverige<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Arbetsf\u00f6rmedlingen<\/span><\/a>, the National Employment Agency, has a lot of really great information about working in Sweden. My students like the <\/span>personliga egenskaper<\/span><\/i> (characteristics)<\/span><\/a> page a lot.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Arbetslivet<\/span><\/a> has some great downloadable PDFs with content on work life and history in Sweden.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Youmo<\/span><\/a>, is geared towards getting information to youth and young adults about safety in relationships, sex, and health. I\u2019ve used their <\/span>j\u00e4mst\u00e4lldhet<\/span><\/i><\/a> article in class several times.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Unga fakta<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>Wikimini<\/span><\/a> are nice for some random, playful topics in class.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Like busy work?<\/b> It may not be everyone\u2019s favorite, but repetition and memorization are key components of language study.\u00a0 Here are some websites with free access to grammar exercises:<\/span><\/p>\n

Take a <\/span>Swedex practice level tests<\/span><\/a> to gauge your level.\u00a0 <\/span>Svenska f\u00f6r alla<\/span><\/a> has a plethora of resources, from grammar, to practice exercises, songs, and more!\u00a0 <\/span>Diskutera svenska <\/span><\/a>is a good blog to answer some more advanced grammar questions. <\/span>Quizlet <\/span><\/a>is a memorization site that many of my students use. Create a free account and search for a flashcard set, or make your own.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Okay, I know that we\u2019re focusing on Swedish language materials but Sweden is really good about putting out cultural information in English if you\u2019d like to brush up on a certain topic or pass it along to an English speaking friend.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sweden\u2019s official website<\/a> – this site has tons of relevant cultural information on traditions, policy, remarkable Swedes, etc.\u00a0 <\/span>Visit Sweden <\/a>, <\/span>Statistics Sweden<\/a>, <\/span>Swedish Institute<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Swedish Government<\/a>, <\/span>News in English<\/a>, <\/span>Svenska kyrkan<\/a><\/p>\n
