Another month gone by, means it\u2019s time for the music blog! This week we\u2019ll meet one of my favorite Swedish artists, Laleh. Although it’s officially spring time, I live in a place where spring is really just getting going now! So, as a tribute to spring, \u201cV\u00e5rens f\u00f6rsta dag \/ Spring\u2019s First Day,\u201d is the song on my mind.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Laleh Pourkarim<\/a> has Persian roots, and moved to the west coast of Sweden as a 9-year-old. A singer-songwriter and producer, she has earned several Swedish Grammy and Radio awards, for \u201cBest Pop Artist,\u201d \u201cLyricist,\u201d \u201cProducer of the Year,\u201d \u201cComposer of the Year,\u201d \u201cSong of the Year,\u201d and the list continues. Laleh moved to L.A. in 2014, continuing to work on her own music while also successfully writing and producing for American artists and television.<\/span><\/p>\n

As a <\/span>spr\u00e5kn\u00f6rd<\/span><\/i> \/ language nerd, I was drawn to Laleh\u2019s music right away because of its strong lyrical content. And BONUS – Laleh sings in Swedish, English, and sometimes Farsi.\u00a0<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Her writing contains much auto-biographical content, harkening to some of the tougher times in her family history, namely her family’s fleeing from war in Iran. Laleh has an incredible family story, explored more in the 2014 documentary, \u201cJag \u00e4r inte beredd att d\u00f6 \u00e4n \/ I am not ready to die yet,\u201d which coincidentally, is a lyric from today\u2019s featured song.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But it’s not all doom and gloom for Laleh, she parallels feelings of melancholy with hope and reconciliation in the most beautiful way. <\/span>\u201c<\/span>V\u00e5rens f\u00f6rsta dag<\/span><\/i>,\u201d tells a story of how people relate to the cycles of nature.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
