Simple main clauses getting you down? Spice them up with a <\/span>bisats<\/span><\/i>! A <\/span>bisats<\/span><\/i>, or dependent clause, helps us add flavor to sentences by adding context, conditions, and reasoning to verbal and written Swedish.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Again, a <\/span>bisats<\/span><\/i> is a subordinate clause, or dependent clause, that accompanies a main clause. It can\u2019t stand alone as its own sentence, it <\/span>depends <\/span><\/i>on the main clause. A <\/span>bisats<\/span><\/i> is considered a complement to a main clause, adding more information. <\/span>
\n<\/span>

Main clause <\/b>– Ahmed ska flytta till Italien. \u00a0 Ahmed will move to Italy. <\/span>

Another thing to note here, is that you can use a <\/span>bisats<\/span><\/i> as a fundament, the foundation and introduction to the sentence. If you choose to put your <\/span>bisats<\/span><\/i> first, you must practice flipped word order, placing the verb second and the subject third:<\/span><\/p>\n

I’ll underline all the bisatser<\/em> below so they are easier to identify. To make a <\/span>bisats<\/span><\/i>, you need a <\/span>bisatsinledare<\/i><\/b>, <\/b>an introductory word to start it off. Below we\u2019ll review some common bisatsinledare<\/em> with examples.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span>*note here that when you negate a <\/span>bisats<\/span><\/i> in Swedish, the <\/span>satsabverbial<\/span><\/i>, in this case, \u201c<\/span>inte<\/span><\/i>\u201d comes before the verb. We\u2019ll dig into this more with a future post!<\/span><\/p>\n

Mastering bisatser<\/em> with flipped word order is paramount in taking your Swedish to the next level. If you’re already there, think about using longer, more complicated bisatser<\/em>, and diversifying the bisatsinledare<\/em> that you typically use.
