So, have you practiced?! Vad bra, we\u2019re going to do bisatser 201 now. Specifically, what to do when adding an adverb into your <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">bisats.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I mentioned <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/swedish\/spice-it-up-with-bisatser\/\">last week<\/a> that <em>bisatser<\/em> consist of an intro word <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(bisatsinledare)<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> like <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">eftersom, medan, n\u00e4r,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> etc, followed by the subject, then verb, etc. The word order is as usual and looks like this:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a01 \u00a0 2<br \/>\n<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jag saknar dig <\/span><\/i><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><b><i>n\u00e4r<\/i><\/b><\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"> du \u00e4r borta<\/span>.<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0 I miss you <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><b>when<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"> you are away<\/span>.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Remember, you can also flip the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">bisats<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and make it an introductory clause. That looks like this: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 1\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a02 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 3<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><b><i>N\u00e4r<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> du \u00e4r borta <\/span><\/i><\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">saknar jag dig.<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/i><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>When<\/strong> you are gone<\/span><\/span>, I miss you.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2026 what are the numbers for? To help us locate the verb &#8211; it is always the second element of a Swedish sentence. So here, consider our <em>bisats<\/em> \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">N\u00e4r du \u00e4r borta<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201d as the first element, then the verb follows, then the subject comes third. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you\u2019re scratching your head after that, take a moment to review inverted word order <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/swedish\/inverted-sentences-in-swedish\/\">here<\/a>. But if you\u2019re all good, let\u2019s move along! Last week I gave this example sentence:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Eftersom Kate inte* gillar att flyga<\/span><\/i><\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0m\u00e5ste vi \u00e5ka t\u00e5g till \u00d6sterrike.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/i><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Because Kate doesn\u2019t like to fly<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, we must take the train to Austria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">*note here that the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">inte<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> follows the subject. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Oj d\u00e5,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> what\u2019s that about?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In Swedish, when you have a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">satsabverbial<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, in this case <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">inte,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> it goes between the subject and the first verb. Some common <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">satsadverbial<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> are: <em>inte, nog, bara, alltid, aldrig, \u00e4ven, verkligen, f\u00f6rresten<\/em>, and the list goes on. We\u2019ll go over a few examples and then I\u2019ll leave you some practice sentences to try for yourself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">bisatsinledare: om<br \/>\n<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">satsadverbial: bara<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Vi undrar<\/span><\/i> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><b><i>om<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Maria <\/span><\/i><b><i>bara<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u00e4ter gr\u00f6nsaker<\/span><\/i><\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We wonder <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><b>if <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maria <\/span><b>only <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">eats vegetables<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\nbisatsinledare: att<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">satsadverbial: verkligen<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">J<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ag tror <\/span><\/i><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><b><i>att <\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">hon <\/span><\/i><b><i>verkligen<\/i><\/b><\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"> gillade t\u00e5rtan<\/span>.<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I think <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">that she really liked the cake.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\nbisatsinledare: om<br \/>\nsatsadverbial: redan<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><em><b>Om<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> du <\/span><b>redan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> k\u00f6pte biljetten<\/span><\/em><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><em> f\u00e5r du g\u00e5 ombord direkt.<\/em> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b>If<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> you <\/span><b>already <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">bought the ticket,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> you may go directly onboard.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Let\u2019s throw in a few examples with multiple verbs.
