This week, I\u2019ll introduce you to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Svensktoppen<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and call-out some of the Swedes who dominated the charts in 2020. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Den svenska musiksmaken \/ Swedish Music Taste<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Svensktoppen<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> started in 1962 to capture the best of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">den svenska musiksmaken <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(Swedish music taste). Until recently, the song list was compiled weekly based on the number of plays a song received from Swedish radio stations all over the country. Now, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sveriges radio<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> also counts the number of streams that songs receive from the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">P4:s spellista<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (channel P4\u2019s playlist). P4 is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sveriges radio<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8216;s most popular radio channel; also host to the enormously popular crossword meets trivia game, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sverigesradio.se\/artikel\/723047\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Melodikrysset<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. <\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Newkid and Benjamin Ingrosso topped last week\u2019s chart with covers they recorded for the hit show <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">S\u00e5 <\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">mycket b\u00e4ttre<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. A couple months back I wrote an article <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/swedish\/music-meets-reality-tv-with-sa-mycket-battre-2020\/\">highlighting the last season of <em>S\u00e5 mycket b\u00e4ttre, <\/em><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">where popular artists across genres cover each other\u2019s songs. I ADORE this show! I mean, who doesn\u2019t love a good cover song? ? Newkid\u2019s rendition of \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Du m\u00e5ste finnas<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201d was originally performed by Helen Sj\u00f6holm in the musical \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Kristina fr\u00e5n Duvem\u00e5la<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u201d If you are interested in the Swedish immigration story to the U.S. this musical is a MUST-see. Based on the novels by Vilhelm Moberg of course. They also awarded some best-ofs to folks who dominated the charts in 2020. She&#8217;s taken a stand on climate change, and vowed not to fly on her last Swedish tour. Her entire crew traveled with a equipment for her stadium shows in busses and trains from city to city. Sweden may not be a gigantic country, but it&#8217;s bigger than Denmark ?, so that&#8217;s quite an achievement!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Breakthrough artist Viktor Leksell was awarded &#8220;Newcomer of the Year&#8221; when his song &#8220;<em>Svag<\/em>&#8221; totally\u00a0 dominated the charts. Viktor made his debut in the Swedish music scene as a contestant of Swedish Idol in 2017. Yes, THE Idol the singing competition show.
