And if you know me, music is central to my type of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">mys<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Melissa Horn is a Swedish artist I play when I want to slow down my tempo. Captivating poetry, chock-full of melancholy meets romance, Melissa\u2019s singer-songwriter vibe is the perfect match for some late-summer listening.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Vem \u00e4r Melissa Horn? \/ Who is Melissa Horn?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A life-long <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">stockholmare<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (Stockholmer), <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Astrid Melissa Edwarda Horn Weitzberg<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> grew up near <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">S\u00f6dermalm<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Melissa <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">var f\u00f6dd i <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(was born in) 1987 to professor Eddie Weitzberg and mother Maritza Horn, an award-winning jazz and pop vocalist. Her parents gifted Melissa her first guitar at age 16 and the strumming and singing ensued! Her debut album <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">L\u00e5nga n\u00e4tter<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (Long Nights) was released in 2008 and reached 7th on the Swedish charts.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Melissa Horn\u2019s raw and emotional songwriting has earned her critical acclaim with Swedish Grammis nominations and the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aftonbladet.se\/nojesbladet\/a\/505gOb\/evert-taube-pris-till-melissa-horn\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Evert Taube-pris<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in 2020. Her lyrics aren\u2019t the kind of terrible melancholy that makes you want to turn and run in the other direction. We worked together as tutors for the Scandinavian Studies department and you can imagine I picked her brain all the time. I asked her for some good Swedish singer-songwriter suggestions and she said, \u201cHave you heard of Melissa Horn?! \u2018<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hur ska det g\u00e5<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">?\u2019 has been my theme song for my year in the U.S.!\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cHur ska det g\u00e5? (How\u2019s it going to go?)\u201d is about the uncertainty of what\u2019s going to happen between a couple. There\u2019s also a phrase about going across the ocean and back again,<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u201c<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jag har tagit b\u00e5ten \u00f6ver havet hit igen.\u201d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Both great connections to Ida\u2019s year studying in Minnesota. Lots of students ask me about this word because its meaning shifts depending on the context. It\u2019s used to give emphasis, similar to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ju<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">v\u00e4l. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0sentence can function without the use of <em>nog<\/em> but including it adds some nuance.
