For example, \u201cI\u2019ll behave myself.\u201d \u201cHe\u2019ll shave himself,\u201d and so on. In Swedish we pair even more verbs with a reflexive pronoun &#8211; the verb &#8220;to learn&#8221; is reflexive, &#8220;to concentrate&#8221; is reflexive, too! In this post, we\u2019ll review the use of reflexive pronouns and cover 11 Swedish reflexive verbs with examples. Don\u2019t skimp on this grammar concept! I find that most Swedish students make mistakes using these verbs.<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Svenska reflexiva pronomen \/ Swedish Reflexive Pronouns<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>English uses myself, yourself, her\/him\/themselves, oneself, etc. to denote that a subject is performing an action on its own. \u201cI\u2019ll wash myself.\u201d versus \u201cI\u2019ll wash it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In Swedish, we also use a reflexive pronoun to make this distinction. It&#8217;s made up of the verb <em>l\u00e4r<\/em> and a reflexive pronoun. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jag l\u00e4r mig finska<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> translates to \u201cI am learning Finnish.\u201d When using the verb, select the object pronoun that corresponds to the subject. Refer to the chart above for help!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Han l\u00e4r sig finska.<\/em>\u00a0 \u00a0 He is learning Finnish.<br \/>\n<em>Vi l\u00e4r oss finska.<\/em>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 We are learning Finnish.<\/p>\n<p>Now, I want to make the distinction that just because <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">l\u00e4r sig<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is a reflexive in Swedish doesn\u2019t mean we translate it to \u201cI learn myself Finnish,&#8221; because that just sounds silly, right?\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you\u2019re teaching yourSELF Finnish, you would add the emphasizing word <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">sj\u00e4lv<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to this sentence, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jag l\u00e4r mig sj\u00e4lv svenska<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, \u201cI am teaching myself Swedish.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Again, reflexive actions are broken down differently in many European languages so these can be especially hard for native English-speakers.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>11 Swedish Reflexive Verbs and their Conjugations<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Below, I\u2019ll provide an example of a verb, its conjugations, and an example sentence.
