Have you ever wanted to talk about astrology\/astronomy, or about the latest robot probe sent to Mars? What are the names of the planets?<\/p>\n

Just like in English, many of the planet names are the same as the days of the week (Sunday = Sun, Monday = moon, Saturday = Saturn, etc.). If you need a refresher on the days of the week, have a look back at the Thai days of the week article<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Also, note that the names of the planets have the word \u0e1e\u0e23\u0e30 pra4 in them. It\u2019s perfectly OK to leave it out when speaking or writing the name of the planets. The word daow1 (\u0e14\u0e32\u0e27<\/strong>) means \u2018star\u2019. It can be used to describe pretty much anything that isn\u2019t the Earth or Sun (including asteroids and artificial satellites).<\/p>\n

There is one note however on the word for \u2018Earth\u2019. Usually it is called \u2018the World\u2019 in Thai. However, this doesn\u2019t quite work if you find yourself on Mars speaking Thai and want to refer to the Earth . . . so here is how you say \u2018the planet Earth\u2019:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
