{"id":227,"date":"2010-12-05T00:51:19","date_gmt":"2010-12-05T00:51:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/thai\/?p=227"},"modified":"2010-12-05T00:51:19","modified_gmt":"2010-12-05T00:51:19","slug":"ifs-ands-and-buts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/thai\/ifs-ands-and-buts\/","title":{"rendered":"Ifs, Ands, and Buts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Ifs, Ands, and Buts (Beginner)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are various ways to say \u2018if\u2019, \u2018and\u2019, and \u2018but\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s start with \u2018if\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u0e16\u0e49\u0e32 <\/strong>\u2013 tah (falling tone) &#8211; The most common way to say \u2018if\u2019, to use with friends.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u0e2b\u0e32\u0e01 <\/strong>\u2013 haak (low tone) &#8211; A more formal way to say \u2018if\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u0e16\u0e49\u0e32\u0e2b\u0e32\u0e01 <\/strong>\u2013 tah haak &#8211; A very formal way to say \u2018if\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u0e22\u0e31\u0e07\u0e44\u0e07<\/strong> \u2013 yang ngai (mid tones) &#8211; An informal \u2018if\u2019 to use with friends.<\/p>\n<p>Now for the \u2018ands\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u0e41\u0e25\u0e30<\/strong> \u2013 lae (mid tone) \u2013 This is the most common way to say \u2018and\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>You can use it just like in English, for example:<\/p>\n<p>I ate pork, fish, and candy &#8211;\u00a0\u0e1c\u0e21\u0e44\u0e14\u0e49\u0e01\u0e34\u0e19\u0e2b\u0e21\u0e39\u0e1b\u0e25\u0e32\u0e41\u0e25\u0e30\u0e02\u0e19\u0e21<\/p>\n<p>*However* there must be no less than 3 items in the list.
