As English does not differentiate between the two meanings, I\u2019d like to explain them both to better help you learn them.<\/p>\n<p>The first type of Thai \u2018jealous\u2019 has a meaning closer to \u2018envy\u2019. It is when you are jealous that someone has something that you don\u2019t. The Thai equivalent is <strong>\u0e2d\u0e34\u0e08\u0e09\u0e32<\/strong>, or et1-chaa5. A few examples are:<\/p>\n<p>\u0e1c\u0e21\u0e2d\u0e34\u0e08\u0e09\u0e32\u0e27\u0e48\u0e32\u0e40\u0e04\u0e49\u0e32\u0e23\u0e27\u0e22\u0e21\u0e32\u0e01\u00a0 I\u2019m jealous that he is very rich.<\/p>\n<p>\u0e19\u0e48\u0e32\u0e2d\u0e34\u0e08\u0e09\u0e32\u0e40\u0e25\u0e22\u0e27\u0e48\u0e32\u0e1e\u0e35\u0e48\u0e44\u0e21\u0e48\u0e15\u0e49\u0e2d\u0e07\u0e17\u0e33\u0e07\u0e32\u0e19\u0e27\u0e31\u0e19\u0e19\u0e35\u0e49\u00a0 It\u2019s so envious that you don\u2019t need to work today.<\/p>\n<p>\u0e04\u0e27\u0e32\u0e21\u0e2d\u0e34\u0e08\u0e09\u0e32\u00a0 jealousy<\/p>\n<p>\u0e17\u0e33\u0e44\u0e21\u0e04\u0e19\u0e40\u0e23\u0e32\u0e16\u0e36\u0e07\u0e15\u0e49\u0e2d\u0e07\u0e2d\u0e34\u0e08\u0e09\u0e32\u0e04\u0e19\u0e2d\u0e37\u0e48\u0e19? \u00a0Why am I so jealous of other people?<\/p>\n<p>\u0e1c\u0e39\u0e49\u0e0a\u0e32\u0e22\u0e21\u0e35\u0e01\u0e32\u0e23\u0e2d\u0e34\u0e08\u0e09\u0e32\u0e01\u0e31\u0e19\u0e2b\u0e23\u0e37\u0e2d\u0e44\u0e21\u0e48? \u00a0Are men jealous of other men?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The second type of \u2018jealous\u2019 is *much* more commonly spoken in Thai. It is the romantic type of jealous, where a person feels threatened by either a real or imaginary love rival. If you\u2019re a guy and have dated a Thai girl, you\u2019ll know exactly what I\u2019m talking about . . . and if you don\u2019t know, watch a Thai soap opera for about a minute and you\u2019ll see how scary it can get . . . ok it\u2019s not that bad . . .<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, the word is <strong>\u0e2b\u0e36\u0e07<\/strong>, or heung5, and is generally considered a negative emotion. To emphasize that it\u2019s a negative emotion being expressed, add the word \u0e02\u0e35\u0e49 in front. A few examples are:<\/p>\n<p>\u0e2b\u0e36\u0e07\u0e44\u0e2b\u0e21?\u00a0 Are you jealous?<\/p>\n<p>\u0e2d\u0e22\u0e48\u0e32\u0e02\u0e35\u0e49\u0e2b\u0e36\u0e07\u0e19\u0e30\u00a0 Don\u2019t be so jealous!<\/p>\n<p>\u0e1c\u0e39\u0e49\u0e2b\u0e0d\u0e34\u0e07\u0e02\u0e35\u0e49\u0e2b\u0e36\u0e07\u0e08\u0e30\u0e41\u0e2a\u0e14\u0e07\u0e2d\u0e2d\u0e01\u0e21\u0e32\u0e2d\u0e22\u0e48\u0e32\u0e07\u0e44\u0e07\u0e04\u0e23\u0e31\u0e1a?
