Thus, in recent years, the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">l\u1ec5 h\u1ed9i<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (festival) Halloween has become more popular in major metropolitan and tourist areas, especially among young people. People pour onto certain designated streets or entertainment venues in Halloween make-up and costumes to have fun.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You may wonder what is \u201cHalloween\u201d called in Vietnamese? \u201cHalloween\u201d, or <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">l\u1ec5 h\u1ed9i h\u00f3a trang<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (masquerade festival) or <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">l\u1ec5 h\u1ed9i ma qu\u1ef7<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (ghost festival), is a cognate and the same word has the same meaning in Vietnamese. In the 1990s, when Vietnam just started opening to the world and changed its political and economic direction, people there had no concept of Western holidays such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, or Valentine\u2019s Day.\u00a0 Within just a few decades, the country has prospered and the young Vietnamese generation has learned and adapted quickly to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">v\u0103n h\u00f3a T\u00e2y ph\u01b0\u01a1ng<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (Western culture). Because of COVID-19, the Halloween celebrations this year probably were scaled back a lot. However, I\u2019m sure there are plenty of underground private Halloween parties out there.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Halloween is coming in less than a week. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">B\u1ea1n c\u00f3 d\u1ef1 \u0111\u1ecbnh g\u00ec cho Halloween?<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (What is your plan for Halloween?) What kind of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">trang ph\u1ee5c h\u00f3a trang <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(costumes) or characters will you dress as this year for yourself or your children? It\u2019s a good time to have a ghost tour or visit some haunted houses in the old South <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">?<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As for me, I don\u2019t like scary things. I wouldn\u2019t dress up as a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">th\u00e2y ma<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (zombie) or qu\u00e1i <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">v\u1eadt<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (monster). I want to be a pretty <em>ti\u00ean n\u1eef<\/em> (fairy) or <em>n\u1eef th\u1ea7n<\/em> (Goddess). I would have an <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00e1c m\u1ed9ng<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (nightmare) if I even had decorations like a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u0111\u1ea7u l\u00e2u<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (skull) or <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">b\u1ed9 x\u01b0\u01a1ng ng\u01b0\u1eddi<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (skeleton) in the house. Therefore, I only have <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">b\u00ed ng\u00f4<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (pumpkin) and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ng\u01b0\u1eddi n\u1ed9m<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (scarecrow) by my door entrance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mong c\u00e1c linh h\u1ed3n v\u00e0 ph\u00f9 th\u1ee7y mang \u0111\u1ebfn nh\u1eefng \u0111i\u1ec1u b\u1ea1n mong mu\u1ed1n<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">!
