It\u2019s best to check <em>d\u1ef1 b\u00e1o th\u1eddi ti\u1ebft<\/em> (weather forecast) each morning before you leave the house so you can be well prepared, especially if you plan to travel far. That\u2019s what I do first thing in the morning when I awaken.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Gi\u00f3 bu\u1ed1t <\/em>\u2013Wind chill<\/li>\n<li><em>Tuy\u1ebft<\/em> \u2013 Snow<\/li>\n<li><em>Hoa<\/em><em> tuy\u1ebft \u2013 <\/em>Snow flake<\/li>\n<li><em>B\u00e3o<\/em><em> tuy\u1ebft <\/em>\u2013 Blizzard\/snow storm<\/li>\n<li><em>M\u01b0a \u0111\u00e1<\/em>\u2013 Hail<\/li>\n<li><em>T<\/em><em>uy\u1ebft \u0111\u1ed5 <\/em>\u2013 Snowfall<\/li>\n<li><em>S\u01b0\u01a1ng<\/em><em> gi\u00e1 <\/em>\u2013 Frost<\/li>\n<li><em>Tr\u1ee5<\/em><em> b\u0103ng <\/em>\u2013 Icicles<\/li>\n<li>\u0110\u00f3ng b\u0103ng \u2013 Frozen<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Don\u2019t forget when you look at the temperature unit in Vietnam. It\u2019s in Celsius, not in Fahrenheit. In case you forgot, the freezing point 32 degrees in Fahrenheit is equivalent to 0 degrees in Celsius; and the boiling point of water at 212 degrees Fahrenheit is equivalent to 100 degrees Celsius.<\/p>\n<p>Growing up in south Vietnam, where winter doesn\u2019t exist, things like snow, blizzard, and icicles are just things in the movies to me.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WINTER ACTIVITIES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Call me crazy, but I actually love all the snow days. Everything is so beautiful when the snow is still fresh. There is so much fun to <em>ch\u01a1i<\/em><em> n\u00e9m b\u00f3ng<\/em><em> tuy\u1ebft<\/em> (snowball fight) or to make <em>ng\u01b0\u1eddi tuy\u1ebft<\/em> (snowman).\u00a0 <em>C\u00e1c m\u00f4n th\u1ec3 thao m\u00f9a \u0111\u00f4ng<\/em> (winter sports) include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Tr\u01b0\u1ee3t<\/em><em> b\u0103ng<\/em> \u2013 Ice skating<\/li>\n<li><em>Tru\u1ecdt<\/em><em> b\u0103ng ngh\u1ec7 thu\u1eadt<\/em> \u2013 Figure skating<\/li>\n<li><em>Tr\u01b0\u1ee3t v\u00e1n tr\u00ean tuy\u1ebft<\/em> &#8211; Snowboarding<\/li>\n<li><em>Tru\u1ecdt<\/em><em> tuy\u1ebft<\/em> &#8211; Skiing<\/li>\n<li><em>Kh\u00fac<\/em><em> c\u00f4n c\u1ea7u tr\u00ean b\u0103ng<\/em> \u2013 Ice hockey<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It\u2019s always exciting to watch <em>Th\u1ebf<\/em><em> v\u1eadn h\u1ed9i m\u00f9a \u0111\u00f4ng<\/em> (Winter Olympic Games) in the winter. This year, China hosts the games in Beijing. I bet it\u2019s tough to organize this big event with all the COVID health and safety guidelines, to ensure the health of the participants, as well as the spectators.<\/p>\n<p>Have you seen the mascot of Beijing 2022 <em>Th\u1ebf<\/em><em> v\u1eadn h\u1ed9i m\u00f9a \u0111\u00f4ng<\/em>? It\u2019s really cute. It\u2019s the panda named \u201cBing Dwen Dwen\u201d! The word \u201cBing\u201d in Chinese means ice. The Sino-Vietnamese word \u201cb\u0103ng\u201d (ice) derived from the Chinese borrowed word (bing).<\/p>\n<p>The cold in north Vietnam during winter months generally is mild, not bitterly cold. If you are a snow bird coming from a cold place and want some warm weather, visit Vietnam in the winter months. All you need is just a jacket if you travel to the north and you could wear shorts in the south.
