Last blog, I talked about the \u201cLittle Vietnam<\/em>\u201d in Chicago. This blog, I would like to introduce you to the \u201cLittle Saigon<\/em>\u201d in Orange County, California. California is home to the largest overseas Vietnamese community in the world, and Orange County has been considered the \u201ccapital\u201d of the Vietnamese overseas in the United States. Just to give an idea of how large the C\u1ed9ng \u0111\u1ed3ng ng\u01b0\u1eddi Vi\u1ec7t<\/em><\/strong> (Vietnamese Community) in Orange County is: there are over 52,000 (>30%) Vietnamese in th\u00e0nh<\/em><\/strong> ph\u1ed1<\/em><\/strong> (city) of Garden Grove, and over 36,000 (>40%) of Vietnamese in th\u00e0nh<\/em><\/strong> ph\u1ed1<\/em><\/strong> Westminster.<\/p>\n

Here in Qu\u1eadn<\/em><\/strong> Cam<\/em><\/strong> (Orange County), you find Vietnamese businesses and restaurants everywhere. When the Vietnamese mention \u201cLittle Saigon<\/em>\u201d in Southern California, they mean the area that has a concentration of Vietnamese businesses in th\u00e0nh<\/em><\/strong> ph\u1ed1<\/em><\/strong> Westminster, Garden Grove, Fountain Valley, and Santa Ana. The heart of \u201cLittle Saigon<\/em>\u201d is the \u201cAsian Garden Mall<\/em>\u201d on Bolsa Avenue, between Magnolia and Brookhust boulevards, in th\u00e0nh<\/em><\/strong> ph\u1ed1<\/em><\/strong> Westminster. The mall is protected by three large God statues in the front in order: Ph\u00fac\/<\/em><\/strong>Ph\u01b0\u1edbc <\/em><\/strong>(Happiness), L\u1ed9c <\/em><\/strong>(Wealth), and Th\u1ecd<\/em><\/strong> (Longevity). Hence, it is commonly known by the Vietnamese by the name \u201cTh\u01b0\u01a1ng X\u00e1 Ph\u00fac L\u1ed9c Th\u1ecd<\/em><\/strong>\u201d (Phuc Loc Tho mall).<\/p>\n

Th\u01b0\u01a1ng X\u00e1 Ph\u00fac L\u1ed9c Th\u1ecd<\/em><\/strong> is a two-story building with an Asian roof top. In there you will find a Vietnamese food court with all the authentic Vietnamese foods, snacks, and desserts. The mall also features a number of jewelry and clothing stores. If you would like to buy the ready-made \u00e1o d\u00e0i<\/em><\/strong>, the traditional Vietnamese outfit, there are so many to pick and choose with very reasonable prices.<\/p>\n

Throughout the year, Th\u01b0\u01a1ng X\u00e1 Ph\u00fac L\u1ed9c Th\u1ecd<\/em><\/strong> hosts a lot of cultural events, notable are the c<\/em><\/strong>h\u1ee3 \u0111\u00eam <\/em><\/strong>(night market) during summer and ch\u1ee3<\/em><\/strong> hoa<\/em><\/strong> (flower market) during T\u1ebft<\/em><\/strong> (Vietnamese New Year).
