5 Ways to Make the Most of Tutoring Time Posted by on Jan 26, 2022 in For Learners

Making time for tutoring can be a big ask for a busy professional.

By blending CL-150 self-study with your tutoring, you can achieve better outcomes (with more flexibility!) than either tech or tutor could deliver alone.

Once you’ve made time for tutoring, here are 5 ways our tutors make sure you’re getting the most from each session:

  1. 📲 Self-teaching before class so you can spend class time on things you can’t easily do alone.

Your tutor will assign a CL-150 lesson before each session. The lessons focus on what tech does best: acquiring vocabulary, grammar patterns, etc. Spaced repetition algorithms adjust to your progress and gaps needs in real time. That makes it as quick and personal as possible, and you can tackle it anytime, anywhere, on any device.

  1. 🗣 Applying what you’ve learned with your tutor.

Come to your live sessions equipped with that vocab and grammar knowledge and put it to use! Have conversations, role play, practice everything in context. Your tutor spends precious live time with you as you use the language, rather than teaching you what you can learn better and faster on your own with tech.

  1. 🙋 Encouraging active participation.

To piggyback off #2, tutoring sessions aren’t lectures! Don’t be a passive participant in your tutoring sessions. Spend as much time talking in the language as you do listening.

  1. 📰 Working with current, authentic materials.

It’s helpful to stick with one tutor with whom you work well. But you’ll encounter many different voices, accents, cadences, slang, and cultural norms in the real world. Incorporating authentic materials gives you that exposure while letting you stick with the tutor you love.

  1. 🔁 “Reviewing” your sessions.

Repetition and review are key to learning, but it’s hard to review a tutoring session per se. Your CL-150 tutor will provide regular notes on your gaps, weaknesses, and strengths, so you know which topics or concepts to review.

Log in to the CL-150 Platform and look for the “One-on-One Tutoring” tile to schedule your next session.
