J’me Tire (I’m Outta Here)! Posted by on May 3, 2013 in Music, Vocabulary

In proper French, if you want to announce that you are leaving, that you’re about to be gone, then you can say: “je pars“, “je m’en vais“, “je quitte les lieux“, etc.

If you feel like saying it informally, however, or rather in French slang, then you have the choice between expressions (not to be used in good or gallant company) such as “je me casse“, “je me barre“, or even “je me tire“…

The latter expression being precisely the title of the song featured in today’s French Blog post, currently numéro 3 on the official French charts.

Notice that just like the informal English sentence “I’m outta here” comes from “I’m out of here“, the French “J’me tire” derives from “Je me tire.

Maître Gims – “J’me tire” (“I’m Outta Here”)

I’m outta here, don’t ask me why, I’m gone without a motive

Sometimes, I feel my heart toughening up

It’s sad to say, but nothing saddens me anymore

Laisse-moi partir loin d’ici

Let me go far away from here

To keep up my smile, I told myself that there was worse

Si c’est comme ça, bah *** la vie d’artiste

If that’s how it is, well then *** the artist life

I know that it seems like a cliché to say that we’re targeted

But I just wanna say it for the rhyme

I leave to a place where I won’t be the suspect

Afterwords, I’ll change my name like Cassius Clay

A place where I won’t have to hold the mic

A place where nobody cares about my life

If I stay, people will for sure avoid me like the plague

Vos interviews m’ont donné trop d’maux d’tête

Your interviews gave me lotsa’ headaches

Truth be told, I’m self-hating

I gotta preserve all what’s left for me

And all these people who’d like to take my number

Go tell them that I ain’t their model

Merci à ceux qui disent

Thank you to all those who say

“Meu-gui, on t’aime

“Meu-gui, we love you

Malgré ta couleur ébène”

Despite your ebony color

J’suis parti sans mot dire, sans me dire

I left without saying a thing, without saying to myself

“Qu’est-ce que je vais devenir ?

“What will I become?

” Stop ! Ne réfléchis plus

“Stop! Don’t think

Meu-gui, stop !

Meu-gui, stop!

Ne réfléchis plus, vas-y

Don’t think anymore, go ahead

Parti sans mentir, sans me dire

Gone without lying, without telling myself

“Qu’est ce que j’vais devenir ?”

“What will I become?”

Stop ! Ne réfléchis plus

Stop! Don’t think anymore

Ne réfléchis plus, vas-y !

Don’t think anymore, go ahead!
