Video Vocabulary – Where are you going? Posted by on Aug 31, 2013 in Grammar, Learning Hebrew

In this video, we have the question לְאָן, literally translated “to where?” or “whither”. It’s to ask someone where they’re going. To say where you are going, you simply add on the prefix לְ, meaning “to (a place)”. In the video we have the following sentences:

לְקוֹנְצֶרְט – to the concert
לְדִיסנִילֶנד – to Disneyland
לְקֶנְיָה – to Kenya
לְטוֹקְיוֹ – to Tokyo
לְסִין – to China
לְסֶרֶט – to the movies
לְמִסעָדָה – to the restaurant
לְסִינַי – to Sinai

If you compare the Hebrew with the English translations, you will see that the definite article הַ (the) is not used with the prefix לְ.
