In this post, I would like to share with you something very basic and yet, something very important. Today, I will show you the important greetings in Hindi. The greetings are translated in Hindi and their romanized spellings are also provided.
Greetings in Hindi:
Hello – नमस्ते / नमस्कार – Namaste / Namaskar
Good Day – शुभ दिन – Shubh Din
Good Morning – सुप्रभात – Suprabhat
Good Afternoon – नमस्ते / नमस्कार – Namaste / Namaskar
Good Evening – शुभ संध्या – Shubh Sandhya
How are you? – आप कैसे हैं। – Aap kaise hain? (to male, to a group, male or female)
आप कैसी हैं। – App kaisi hain? (to female, to a group of female)
How’s it going? – कैसा चल रहा है। – kaisa chal raha hai?
See you later – बाद में मिलते हैं। – Baad mein milte hain.
See you soon – जल्दी ही मिलते हैं। – Jaldi hi milte hain.
See you tomorrow – कल मिलते हैं। – Kal milte hain.
See you again – फिर मिलते हैं। – Fir milte hain.
Good night – शुभ रात्रि – Shubh Raatri
Goodbye – नमस्ते / नमस्कार – Namaste / Namaskar
Note:
1. नमस्कार (Namaskar) is used on more formal occasion.
2. Greeting with “See you..” are usually constructed with “to meet” and not with “to see” in Hindi. The verb for “to meet” is “मिलना” (milna).
