Culfests Posted by kunthra on Jul 13, 2010 in Uncategorized
One of the highlights of attending university in India is the culfest. A culfest is short for culture festival. Culfests last a couple of days and usually include an intellectual event, like a quiz show and something artsy, like a singing contest.
For instance, Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management and Technology is a college that holds an annual culfest called Euphuism. The event includes a photography competition, games like tug-o-war, a quiz competition and since this is an IT college, there is a circuit design competition as well.
There’s also the culfest called the Antaragni (अन्तराग्नि), which means “the fire within”, held by the college of IIT Kanpur. The highlight of this event is called Synchronicity, and it’s an event where professional and famous rock bands make an appearance at the college.
Mood Indigo is a culfest held by the Indian Institute of the Technology of Bombay (भारतीय प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान, मुंबई). It is one of the oldest festivals, and quite possibly one of the largest as well.
Basically culfests are times when Indian college students can relax from their studying and enjoy their youth. It’s also a time of collaboration and teamwork among college students, which prepares them for teamwork in the workplace.
