let me show you some more idioms in Hindi. These are very commonly used in daily conversation and will be worth learning.
Examples is also shown along-with their pronunciation scheme in romanized Hindi and their English translations so you’ll find it easier to understand.

1. छाती पर सांप लोटना (chaati par saanp lotna) – to get envious

मेरी नयी गाडी देख कर उसकी छाती पर सांप लोट गए।
Meri naayi gaadi dekh kar uski chaati par saanp lot gaye.
He got envious when he saw my new car.

2. जान पर खेलना (jaan par khelna) – rising own life

उसने अपनी जान पर खेलकर तीन बच्चों की जान बचाई।
Usne aapni jaan par khelkar trrn bacchon ki jaan bachaai.
He has risked his own life to save three children from fire.

3. झख मारना (jhakh maarna) – to waste time

उसने पूरे वर्ष केवल झख मारी और कुछ नहीं किया।
Usne pure varsh keval jhak mari hai aur kuch nahi kiya.
He was wasting the entire year, doing nothing.

4. टेड़ी खीर होना (taedi khir hona) – to be a difficult task

यह काम टेडी खीर है।
Yeh kaam taedi khir hai.
This task is a difficult one.

5. टांग अडाना (tang adaana) – to create obstacles

वो मुझे सफल नहीं देखना चाहाता, इसलिए मेरे कामों में तंग अड़ाता रहा है।
wo mujhe safal nahi dekhana chaahaata isliye mere kaamon mein tang adaate reha hai.
He doesn’t want me to be successful that’s why he has always created obstacles in my endeavors.

6. टूट पड़ना (tut padna) – to attack

वो इतने भूखे थे की खाना देखते ही उसपे टूट पड़े।
wo itne bhuke the ki khaana dekhte hi uspe tut pade.
They were so hungry, that when they saw food they immediately attack on it.

7. ठोकर खाना (thaukar khaana) – to be disappointed

उसने इस बार भी ठोकर खायी।
usne is baar bhi thaukar kaayi.
She has again disappointed.

8. तारे गिनना (taare ginna) – unable to go to sleep

वो आज रात भी तारे गिन रहा है।
wo aaj raat bhi taare gin raha hai.
He is again unable to go to sleep tonight.

9. दौड़ – धूप करना (daud – dhup karna) – to travel a lot

उससे अपने काम के कारण बहुत दौड़ – धूप करनी पड़ती है
usse apne kaam ke karan bahut daud-dhup karni padti hai.
He has to make a lot of travel because of his work.

10.नौ – दो ग्यारह होना (nau – dau gyaarah hona) – to disappear/ to run away

पुलिस को देखते ही चोर नौ-दो ग्यारह हो गया।
Police ko dekhte hi chor nau-do gyaarah ho gaya.
Thief got away as soon as he saw the police.

11. नाक में दम आना (naak mein dam aana) – to get annoyed

भ्रष्ट सरकार से हम सबकी नाक में दम आ गया है।
Bhrast sarkar se hum sabki naak mein daam aa gaya hai,
Corrupt government has got us really annoyed.

12. पगड़ी उछालना (pagadi uchaalana) – to embarrass someone

बुरे व्यक्ति दूसरे लोगों की पगड़ी उछालते रहते हैं।
Bure vyakti dusre logn ki pagadi uchalte rehte hain.
Bad persons keep embarrassing someone.

13. मजा चखाना (maja chakhaana) – to take revenge

राजा ने दुश्मन को मजा चखाने की सोच ली।
Raaja ne dushman ko maja chakhaane ki soch li.
King had decided to take revenge from his enemy.
