Today, I would like to present you some of the interesting word pairs in Hindi. These word pairs are often used by us in our daily conversations.  Some of the word pairs are the combination of meaningful and meaningless words whereas the other are the combination of meaningless words. If you want to say something in a dramatic way, you can use these word pairs.

Let’s have a look with some of the examples.

1. मार – धाड़ (Maar – Dhaadh) – Violence/ Fight
The first word, मार is meaningful but second word, धाड़ is not. मार comes from मारना (verb. Maarna) which means to hit/kill/strike etc.

2. अनाप – शनाप (Anaap – Shanaap) – Nonsense
Here, both of the words are meaningless.

3. खुसुर – पुसर (Khusur – Pusar) – Whispering
Here, both the words are meaningless.

4. लूट – पाट (Loot – Paat) – Robbery/Mugging
The first word, चटक is meaningful but second word, पटक is not. लूट comes from लूटना (verb. Lootna) which means to rob/plunder etc.

5. चटक – मटक (Chatak – Matak) – Showoff
The first word, चटक is meaningful but second word, पटक is not. चटक comes from चटकीला (noun. Chatkila) which means Vivid or Bright.

6. बोल – बाला (Bol – Baala) – Influence
The first word, मार is meaningful but second word, धाड़ is not. बोल comes from बोलना (verb. Bolna ) which means to speak/talk.

7. जात – पात (Jaat – Paat) – Race/Caste
The first word, जात is meaningful but second word, पात is not. जात means Caste or Race.

8. टाल – मटोल (Taal – Matol) – Postponing
The first word, टाल is meaningful but second word, मटोल is not. टाल comes from टालना (verb. Taalna) which means to postpone/avoid etc.

9. अंट – शंट (Ant – Shant) – Nonsense
Here, both of the words are meaningless.

10. ऊबड़ – खाबड़ (Ubad – Khaabad) – Uneven/Rough
Here, both of the words are meaningless. It is used to describe a terrain.

11. हिसाब – किताब (Hisab – Kitab) – Calculation/Account
The first word, हिसाब is meaningful but second word, किताब is not. हिसाब means Calculation or Account.

12. छेड़ – छाड़ (Ched – Chaad) – Tease/Molestation
The first word, छेड़ is meaningful but second word, छाड़ is not. छेड़ comes from छेड़ना (verb. chedna) which means tease.

13. छिन्न – भिन्न (Chinn – Bhinn) – Truncation/Disintegration/Destroy
The first word, छिन्न is meaningful but second word, भिन्न is not. छिन्न means Truncated.
