Jhulan Yatra is a festival honoring Lord Krishna (कृष्ण). The festival is set to happen August 19th, of this year. The Lord Krishna is set in a swing made of plated gold and rocked back and forth by his devotees. The swing is swung back and forth with a string. By swinging the deity back and forth, devotees are able to show their devotion to the Lord. While the swing is being swung, songs of devotion are sung.
The deity is usually attended by two are more attendants. One attendant fans the deity, while the other wafts a lighted lamp near the Lord. You can recognize the attendants by the hairstyle. Everything is shaved, except for the ponytail in the back of the head.
