The Ablative Case Posted by kunthra on Jan 9, 2010 in Hindi Language
Before we begin talking about the ablative case, the following words may prove useful:
Here – यहाँ
There – वहाँ
In – अंदर, भीतर
Out – बाहर
Above/Over – ऊपर
Under/Below – नीचे
Behind – पीछे
In front of – के सामने
When an object or the subject of a sentence is moved from one place to another, the place from where the object or the subject moved is in the ablative case.
Examples:
He goes from here to there : वह यहाँ से वहाँ जाता है (there = object. here = ablative)
I went to Delhii from Mathuraa : मैं मथुरा से दिल्ली गया (Delhii = object/accusative. Mathuraa = ablative)
From the two sentences above, the ablative suffix was से. In both cases the place that came after the word “from” in English was placed in the ablative. (“From here” and “From Mathuraa”)
When one object/subject is compared with another object/subject, the other object/subject is in the ablative:
Example :
Suniil is taller than Arvind : सुनील अरविंद से ऊँचा-लंबा है
