As expressões idiomáticas estão presentes na nossa vida e dão um colorido especial à nossa fala e expressa idéias que não teriam muita graça se fossem ditas de outra forma.

Vamos aprender algumas em inglês com a preposição on?

1. on a shoestring – com pouco dinheiro.
I never travel on a shoestring, if I don’t have money, I don’t do it.

2. on borrowed time – com os dias contados.
My laptop is on borrowed time. It keeps freezing up and I can’t deal with it anymore.

3. on edge – tenso, ansioso, nervoso
He’s been on edge because of his mid-term tests that start tomorrow.

4. on the cutting edge – na vanguarda da tecnologia, à frente dos concorrentes.
Their method for teaching English is on the cutting edge because it doesn’t use only grammar.

5. on the rocks – em risco de falhar; com gelo.
His job is on the rocks because he didn’t hand in the reports he was supposed to, and they were really important.
He drinks his vodka on the rocks.

6. on an empty stomach – de estômago vazio
Never drink on an empty stomach, it’s going to be very bad for you.

7. on the dot – na hora certa
I want you here at 6pm, on the dot.

8. on the wagon – (estar) sem beber álcool
Jack’s been on the wagon for a year now, and his life has improved 100%!
