Vocabulário: palavras começadas com CL Posted by on Dec 10, 2009 in Avançado

Na lingua inglesa temos palavras relacionadas fono e etimológicamente (pelo som e origem). Sabendo um pouco da história dessas palavras podemos relacioná-las e, dessa maneira, conseguir aprendê-las e retê-las mais.

Vejamos um exemplo com palavras que começam com CL, que estão relacionadas com segurar ou apertar algo.

clamp – braçadeira; apertar
Clamp the two pieces of wood together so they won’t loosen up.
Tighten the clamp firmly.
She clamped her hand over her mouth because she was so scared.
In the past, they clamped iron chains around slaves’ ankles.

clasp – apertar (geralmente a mão de alguém)
When he came to greet me, he clasped my hand instead of shaking it.

clench – apertar (punho ou dentes)
The old man clenched his fist and came towards us.
He had a knife clenched between his teeth.

cling – apertar (alguém ou algo), não deixar ir embora
Our clothes were so wet they clung to us.
The little girl was clinging onto a Barbie doll and she wouldn’t let go of it.

clutch – apertar algo com as mãos; embreagem
The little boy clutched his mother’s hand when they crossed the street.
Step on the clutch before shifting gears.
