Hello, there! Nosso podcast hoje traz algumas expressões usadas quando estamos num restaurante ou comendo fora. Ouça e leia o seguinte diálogo entre duas amigas e preste atenção nas expressões em negrito:

Janet  – I just love eating out and having a good time. And thanks for treating me, this is a great birthday present.
Susan – I’m so glad you’re enjoying it too. I haven’t seen you in ages and I thought it was a good opportunity to catch up with you. Do you come here often?
Janet – I come here once in a while, I really like this place. So, have you decided what you’re going to have?
Susan – I think I’ll have the chicken Caesar salad, what about you?
Janet – Maybe I’ll have roasted chicken and soup.
Waiter – Ladies, are you ready to order?
Susan – Yes, we are. I’d like the chicken Caesar salad.
Janet – And I’ll have roasted chicken and soup.
Waiter – Anything to drink?
Susan – Mmm, I’ll have water. You, Janet?
Janet – Let me see, I think I’ll have an orange juice.
Waiter – Will that be all?
Janet – Yeah, that’s all for now.
Waiter – OK, I’ll be right back with your order.

Hoje é o aniversário da Janet, Janet’s birthday e Susan, sua amiga, está pagando o jantar para ela, treating her to dinner. Elas não se vêem in ages, há muito tempo, in ages e é uma ótima oportunidade para que elas coloquem a conversa em dia, to catch up.

Janet diz que vem ao restaurante once in a while (de vez em quando) e pergunta a Susan o que ela vai pedir, what she’s going to have.

Susan não tem certeza mas acha que vai pedir a salada Caesar de frango, the chicken Caesar salad. Ela usa a expressão I think I’ll have (Acho que vou querer, acho que vou pedir). A Janet por sua vez também não tem certeza e diz que talvez vai pedir (Maybe I’ll have) frango assado (roasted chicken) e sopa (soup). Percebam o uso do will nessas expressões, pois elas não indicam uma decisão tomada anteriormente e sim estão resolvendo na hora da fala.

O garçom chega e pergunta se elas estão prontas para pedir, ready to order. Susan diz: I’d like the chicken Caesar salad, ou seja, ela gostaria, she’d like. Ele também pergunta se vão querer algo para beber, “Anything to drink?” Susan vai querer água, water e Janet um suco de laranja, an orange juice.

Ele também pergunta se elas vão querer mais alguma coisa com a pergunta Will that be all? e elas respondem que por hora é tudo, elas não vão querer mais nada, e dizem that’s all for now, por enquanto é só isso. O garçom diz que volta daqui a pouco, I’ll be right back, com o pedido delas.
