The question: ”Snakker du norsk?” (”Do you speak Norwegian?”) should almost always be followed by another question: ”Hvilken dialekt?” (”Which dialect?”). There are 2 official written Norwegian languages, bokmål (literally book language) and nynorsk (literally new Norwegian).
