¡Adivina adivinanza, otra vez! Posted by on Mar 3, 2011 in Spanish Culture

Both children and grown ups usually enjoy riddles when they are learning a language. I love them myself, as I told you once. It is also a good way of getting a brain workout, and this way we kill two birds with one stone. So in today’s post I’ll give you a few, not too difficult ones, both to practise and to have some fun. And it would be great if you knew a different one to share with us!

1. Con su cola inmensa,
vestido de gris,
busca tu despensa
en cualquier país.

(With his immense tail,
Dressed in grey,
It looks for your pantry
In any country)

2. Si preguntas mi nombre
mi inicial está en guante
y mi segunda letra
anda siempre ambulante.
La tercera y la cuarta
se hallarán en total .
Soy el más listo y guapo…
pero el menos cordial.

(If you ask my name
My initial is in “guante” (glove)
And my second letter
It always walks ambulant.
The third one and the fourth one
Will be found in total.
I am the smartest and most handsome…
But the least cordial.)

3. Mi madre es tartamuda ,
mi padre es cantaor;
tengo el vestido blanco
y amarillo el corazón.

(My mother is a stutterer,
My father is a singer;
I wear a white dress
And a yellow heart)

4. Tengo llaves pero no cerradura
y del blanco al negro
pasan por mi cintura.

(I have “keys” but no lock
And from white to black
Are put round my waist.)

What would you fill an earthenware jar with so that it weighs less than empty?

A white horse went into the Black Sea. How did it come out?

A starving lion, what does it feed on?

Comments:

  1. Kabir:

    1. Un ratón? (no tiene cola inmensa, pero…no sé)
    2. Gato?
    4. El piano
    5. El caballo salió caminando.
Un león muerto no se puede alimentar : )

  2. Magda:

    ¡Genial Kabir!

  3. Kabir:

    ¡Gracias, Magda!
Bueno, aquí es mi segundo intento:
    la número 3: un huevo.

  4. Magda:

    ¡Estupendo jeje!
