In this Spanish lesson we are going to practice giving orders, advice and instructions in Spanish. As usual, first we will review some relevant grammar and vocabulary and then see if you can follow a short listening.

This lesson is part of a Spanish course that practices the grammar and vocabulary first introduced in my Advanced Spanish course posted here on the Transparent Language blog. Let’s test your listening comprehension and see if you can understand a short audio in Spanish. The transcript to the audio will be given at the end of the post but please try not to look at it until you have tried playing and understanding the audio a few times.

Now play the audio to listen a conversation. Can you understand what is being said? Play the audio a few times before you look at the transcript. Don’t worry if you don’t understand every single thing the two people are saying. Try to catch whichever words you can and then try to piece things together to work out what is being said.

Knock knock…

Carmen: ¡Voy! ….. ¡Hola Ben! Entra, entra. ¿Quieres un café?

Ben: Vale, venga. Con leche de soja y dos cucharaditas de azúcar por favor.

Carmen: Vale. ¿Quieres un café bombón?

Ben: ¿Café bombón? ¿Cómo se hace?

Carmen: Es muy fácil. Primero coges un vaso muy pequeño, echas leche condensada hasta cubrir la mitad del vaso y después pones un café espresso por encima.

Ben: Bueno, es que yo no bebo leche de vaca.

Carmen: No te preocupes. Tengo leche condensada de soja. Venga, pruébalo. Si te gusta el café dulce, el café bombón te va a encantar.

Ben: Vale venga. Ponme uno.

Carmen: Muy bien. Y siéntate, siéntate. Estate tranquilo. Pareces nervioso Ben. ¿Te pasa algo?

Ben: Bueno, tengo que contarte algo pero te ruego que no se lo digas a nadie.

Carmen: Claro, claro. ¿Qué te pasa?

Ben: Sara me ha dejado y estoy hecho polvo. Creo que estoy deprimido.

Carmen: ¡Oh no! ¡Haberlo dicho antes Ben! Te voy a preparar un carajillo.

Ben: ¿Un qué?

Carmen: Un carajillo. Es un café con licor. Tengo brandy y whisky. ¿Qué le hecho?

Ben: Échale los dos.
