In this Spanish lesson we will look at Spanish vocabulary related to restaurants and practice speaking Spanish in a restaurant. As usual, first we will review some relevant grammar and vocabulary and then see if you can follow a short listening.

This lesson is part of a Spanish course that practices the grammar and vocabulary first introduced in my beginner Spanish course posted here on the Transparent Language blog. Let’s test your listening comprehension and see if you can understand a short audio in Spanish. The transcript to the audio will be given at the end of the post but please try not to look at it until you have tried playing and understanding the audio a few times.

Please familiarise yourself with the following words and phrases before listening to the audio below:

Una mesa para ..(number).. personas: a table for ..(number)..people
Por favor: please
El menú, por favor: the menu, please
Para beber quiero/quisiera…: to drink I would like…
De primero quiero/quisiera…: for first course I would like…
De segundo quiero/quisiera…: for second course I would like…
¿Qué lleva…?: what does…. come with?
Oiga, perdone: excuse me

Don’t worry if you don’t understand every single thing the two people are saying. Try to catch whichever words you can and then try to piece things together to work out what is being said.

Customer: Hola
Waitress: Hola
Customer: Una mesa para una persona, por favor
Waitress: Muy bien. ¿Esta está bien?
Customer: Sí, muy bien, gracias.
Waitress: Aquí tiene el menú.
Customer: Muchas gracias. A ver…. De primero, sopa de marisco.
Waitress: Sopa de marisco. Muy bien. ¿Y de segundo?
Customer: A ver….¿Qué lleva el atún?
Waitress: Ensalada y patatas fritas.
Customer: Perfecto. De segundo atún.
Waitress: Atún, vale.. ¿Y para beber?
Customer: ¿Tiene cerveza San Miguel en botellín?
Waitress: Sí, sí. Tenemos San Miguel en botellín.
