Beginner Spanish Review Lesson 13 Spanish Verbs in the Present Tense (Part 1) Posted by on Feb 12, 2013 in Learning, Spanish Grammar, Spanish Vocabulary, Videos

¡Hola! ¿Qué tal?

Today in this Spanish review lesson we will practice how to describe things that we usually do using regular Spanish verbs and the Spanish Present Tense.

Answers to all tasks involved in this lesson will be given at the end of the post and you can also follow a link with this post to watch the original theory video lesson.

Spanish Verbs in the Present Tense

1. First, let’s see if you know what these Spanish verbs mean:

– Trabajar
– Escribir
– Leer
– Escuchar
– Hablar
– Vivir
– Comprender
– Beber
– Comer
– Comprar

2. Next, please translate these verbs to Spanish:

– To live
– To listen to
– To buy
– To write
– To speak
– To understand
– To read
– To eat
– To work
– To drink

3. Now, let´s conjugate some Spanish verbs in the Present Tense. I will say a verb in Spanish and a person (yo, tú, usted, él or ella) and I would like you to conjugate the verb in the correct way for the Present Tense. For example: Comprar – tú: Compras

– Beber (yo)
– Hablar (usted)
– Escuchar (él)
– Comer (tú)
– Vivir (ella)
– Comprender (usted)
– Escribir (yo)
– Trabajar (tú)
– Comprar (él)
– Leer (ella)

4. I will now say some verbs which have already been conjugated in the Present Tense and you have to tell me what they mean in English. For example: “Hablo” means “I speak”. Keep in mind that some of them could mean more than one thing:

– Comes
– Compra
– Escucho
– Lees
– Vive
– Escribo
– Bebes
– Comprendo
– Habla
– Trabajas

5. Let´s see now if you understand these Spanish sentences:

– ¿Escuchas música pop?
– No, escucho música clásica
– ¿Bebe usted vino tinto?
– No, bebo vino blanco
– María come tortilla de patata.

6. Finally, please try to say the following sentences in Spanish:

– Do you buy milk? (friendly)
– Yes, I buy milk.
– Do you understand? (formal)
– No, I don´t understand
– Pedro works in Madrid.

This is all for today.

In the next practice lesson we will practice more Spanish verb endings in the Spanish Present Tense: those we use for a group of people, to say that “we” (nosotros) do something, to say that “all of you” (vosotros/ustedes) do something or to say that “they” (ellos) do something. Make sure you are confident with the endings in this lesson before you watch the next one. We will see more and more verb endings in the future for different tenses and it is important to start memorizing them from the beginning.

Have a great day y hasta pronto.
