Hola ¿Cómo estáis?

Today we are going to practice all about the Present Perfect grammar tense in Spanish – El Pretérito Perfecto – that is used to describe things “we have done”.

Answers to all tasks involved in this lesson will be given at the end of the post and you can also follow a link with this post to watch the original theory video lesson on the same topic.

Practice Spanish Pretérito Perfecto Present Perfect

1. First, let´s practice how to make the Spanish Pretérito Perfecto with regular verbs. I will say a verb and a person (yo, tú, él, etc) and I would like you to try to conjugate the verb correctly: (For example: Tú / hablar– Has hablado)

Nosotros / comer
Yo / estudiar
Ellos / vivir
Usted / leer
Vosotros / trabajar
Tú / beber

2. Now, let´s do the same with some irregular Spanish verbs:

Nosotros / abrir
Yo / poner
Ellos / romper
Usted / escribir
Vosotros / decir
Tú / hacer

3. Can you translate these expresions of time from Spanish to English?

Hoy
Hace dos horas
Hace un rato
Esta tarde
Esta semana
Este fin de semana
Este verano
Este invierno

4. Please translate to English the following sentences:

Mi hermano ha trabajado mucho hoy.
Este verano hemos visitado Roma.
Hace un rato he visto una película en la tele.
Mis padres no han venido a mi casa este fin de semana
Esta mañana Silvia ha estudiado mucho.
Este mes he comprado un coche nuevo.

5. Let´s see now if you know how to say the following adverbs in Spanish:

Already
Not yet
Ever
Never

6. Finally translate the following sentences from English to Spanish using the adverbs we have practiced before:

I have already finished.
We haven´t seen your house yet. (one person / friendly)
Have you ever visited Alaska? (one person / formal)
My grandmother has never travelled by plane.

Bueno, esto es todo por hoy.

I hope you have enjoyed the class. Please keep in mind that the used of this past tense in Spanish is not exactly the same in Spain and in Latinoamérica. Latinoamerican speakers tend to use other past tense, the pretérito indefinido, when in Spain we use the Pret. Perfecto. For example, if I want to say “I have already eaten” I would say “Ya he comido”, when some latinamericans would say “ya comí”and both are correct.

Nos vemos pronto con más clases prácticas de español.

¡Adiós!
