Many of you will probably have dates tonight so here’s a list of useful words and expressions related to seeing someone.
Salir con alguien = to see someone
Diana parece mucho más feliz desde que comenzó a salir con Miguel. [Diana looks much happier ever since she started seeing Miguel.]
Tener una cita con = to have a date with
Ella siempre se maquilla y se viste bien cuando tiene una cita con su novio. [She always puts makeup on and dresses well when she has a date with her boyfriend.]
Estar enamorado(a) de = to be in love with
Las personas no siempre piensan lógicamente cuando están enamoradas. [People don’t always think straight when they are in love.]
Enamorarse de = to fall in love with
Amor a primera vista = love at first sight
Ricardo se enamoró de Sandra en el instante en que la vio. Fue amor a primera vista. [Ricardo fell in love with Sandra the moment he saw her. It was love at first sight.]
Tener una relación estable con = to go steady with
Roberto nunca tuvo una relación estable con ninguna chica. Lo único que le importa es divertirse. [Roberto has never gone steady with any girl. He only cares about having fun.]
Llevarse bien con = to get along with
Ellos decidieron separarse cuando dejaron de llevarse bien. [They decided to break up when they stopped getting along with each other.]
El amor es ciego = Love is blind
Separarse de / romper con / cortar con = to break up with
Todos nos sorprendimos cuando Catalina contó que había cortado/roto con David. [We were all surprised when Catalina said she had broken up with David.]
Olvidar = to forget, to get over (someone)
A Laura le llevó bastante tiempo olvidarse de su ex novio. [It took Laura a long time to get over her boyfriend.]
Hacer las paces = to make up
Qué bien que Bernardo y Martina hayan hecho las paces después de la discusión acalorada que tuvieron. [I’m glad Bernardo and Martina have made up after the heated argument they had.]
Casarse = to get married
Jorge y Helena se van a casar este fin de semana. [Jorge and Helena are going to get married this weekend.]
Compromiso = engagement
El día que se comprometieron, Hernán le dio a su prometida un hermoso anillo de compromiso. [The day they got engaged, Hernán gave his fiancée an engagement ring.]
Prometido = fiancé
Prometida = fiancée
Novio = groom
Novia = bride
Luna de miel = honeymoon
Recién casados = newlyweds
Los recién casados van a pasar la luna de miel en Miami. [The newlyweds are going to spend their honeymoon in Miami.]
