This year the world lost one of the greatest singers and composers: Mercedes Sosa.

Sosa was born in Tucumán, Argentina, in 1935 and at 15 won a radio singing competition and recorded her first album, La Voz de la Zafra.

She was known as “the voice of the voiceless ones” and recorded 40 albums. Sosa performed in big and important venues such as The Vatican, Carnegie Hall, Théâtre Mogador, The Coliseum and Lincoln Center.

One of Sosa’s greatest and best known songs is Violeta Parra’s Gracias a la Vida. Check the video below and to read the lyrics, click here.
