Spanish Lesson Intermediate 12 Expressions Of Annoyance, Resignation, Lament, and Consolation Posted by on Feb 16, 2011 in Spanish Grammar, Spanish Vocabulary, Videos

Hola ¿Cómo estáis todos?

Hoy vamos a ver expresiones de fastidio (annoyance), resignación (resignation), lamento (lament) y consuelo (consolation). These are very useful as they are heard all the time in everyday conversation. None of the expressions you are going to learn in this lesson are considered rude.

Let´s start with expressions of annoyance:

• ¡Jo!: Damn!
• ¡Joe!: Damn!
• ¡Qué agobio!: How stressful!
• ¡Qué rollo!: What a pain!/How boring!
• ¡Qué lata! / ¡Vaya una lata!: What a pain!
• ¡Qué pesadez!: What a pain/How boring!
• ¡Qué lío!: What a mess!
• Me molesta que…: It annoys me that….

Expressions of resignation:

• ¡Qué lástima!: What a shame!
• ¡Qué bajón!: What a let-down!
• ¡Ay! ¡Lo siento!: I am so sorry!
• ¡Qué desgracia!: What a tragedy!
• ¡Vaya!: No!
• ¡Cuánto lo siento!: How sorry I am!
• Siento que (subjuntivo)…: I am sorry … Siento que tu hermana esté enferma: I am sorry your sister is ill

Expressions of consolation:

• ¡Calma, calma!: Calm down!/Relax!
• ¡Tómatelo con calma!: Take it easy!
• Todo va a salir bien: Everything is going to be OK
• Ya verás como todo se arregla: Everything will be OK, you’ll see
• Ya verás como encuentras la solución: Don’t worry, you’ll work it out
• Con el tiempo te alegrarás: Everything will be OK in time
• No pierdas las esperanzas: Don’t lose hope
• El tiempo lo cura todo: Time is a great healer

That’s all the expressions for today. I hope you found them interesting. Please make sure that you listen carefully to the intonation as it is very important to pronounce the expressions correctly. I recommend that you watch this lesson a few times repeating the expressions after me until you get the pronunciation and intonation just right. Afterwards, I recommend that you think about situations when you would use the expressions. In doing this you will find that the expressions come to your head more quickly and naturally in real life.

Que tengáis una semana fabulosa y os espero en mi próximo vídeo.

¡Adiós!
