Talking about the weather in Spanish II Posted by on Sep 18, 2012 in Spanish Vocabulary

¡Hola, mi gente!

As you may already know I live in Brazil, in the state of São Paulo, in a town called Bebedouro (Drinking Fountain). It is usually warm here but these days it has been very, very hot. So I decided to pick up where my Spanish friend Laura left off with her video lesson and talk a little bit more about the weather in Spanish.

Check out this conversation:

Now let’s take a look at some importante points in this conversation.

¿Has escuchado…? – Have you heard…? This expression should be used when you actually hear something. When you want to know if someone has heard about something, a fact, gossip, etc., use the expression ¿Te has enterado de que…?

el pronóstico del tiempo – the weather forecast
el hombre del tiempo – the weather man

habrá – there will be. If you want to say “there would be”, use habría.

puede – this verb form can be used to say “it may” or “it might”, stating possibility

Odiar – when you hate something say, “Odio algo”, when you hate someone you add the preposition “a”, “Odio a alguien”.

Te entiendo. – I understand you, I know how you feel.

Para mí… – To me, in my opinión

actividades al aire libre – outdoor activities

Pensaba irme a la playa. – In English we say “to think about doing something”, in Spanish we don’t need the preposition and the verb comes in the infinitive. Here are some examples:

Pienso viajar a Perú el año que viene. [I’m thinking about traveling to Peru next year.]
¿Qué piensas hacer ahora? [What are you thinking about doing now?]

¿Y ustedes? ¿Qué tipo de tiempo les gusta más?
