Letter Writing in Hindi Posted by on Jan 31, 2011 in Hindi Language

Writing a Letter is always helpful and interesting, whatever the language may be. Hindi is no different but are you aware of all the right greeting and vocabulary that you need in Hindi letter, how to place the address and subject?

Let me show you, how to write a Letter in Hindi for various occasions.

Types of Letter :
1) निजी पत्र – Personal Letter
2) प्रार्थना पत्र – Request Letter
3) व्यवसायिक पत्र – Business Letter
4) सरकारी पत्र – Official Letter

Part of a Letter

Part of typical Hindi Letter is similar to English Letters with date & place, salutation, main message, compliementry closure, signature and address. Please not that there are specific words for salutation (मान्यवर, महोदय) and closure ( भवदीय, आज्ञाकारी etc) just like dear sir, yours friend/sincerely etc in English. Also, each Letter is different than the other i.e. position of address or date.

1) Format of निजी पत्र – Personal Letter
In personal letter, please take care that the address and date comes upper right side of the letter. The format is:

राष्ट्रपति मार्ग,

भारत
29th जनवरी, 2011

प्रिय मित्र,

नमस्कार/नमस्ते!

————————– संदेश (Message) ————————

2) Format of प्रार्थना पत्र – Request Letter
A leave request Letter from a student to school principal that students use in India in Hindi speaking region. Same format can be used for other education or similar institutes by changing the salutation.
