Hello, there!

Let’s learn and review some very useful sentences for when you make a phone call en español!

When you want to know a phone number:

¿Cuál es tu/su número de teléfono? [What’s your phone number?]
Es el … [It’s …]
No tengo teléfono. [I don’t have a phone.]

¿Puede(s) darme …? [Can you give me …?]
Sabe(s) / Conoce(s) / Me pasa(s) el número de teléfono de …? [Do you know / Can you tell me …’s phone number?]
Sí, claro. [Yes, of course.]
No lo tengo. [I don’t have it.]
No lo sé. [I don’t know it.]
No lo conozco, lo siento. [I don’t know him, I’m sorry.]

If you want to talk to somebody

¡Hola! / ¡Sí! / ¿Diga? / ¿Dígame? [Hello!?]
¿Está el señor / la señora / la señorita …, por favor? [Is Mr. / Mrs. / Miss … there, please?]
¿De parte de quién? / ¿Quién habla? / ¿A quién anuncio? [Who may I say is calling?]
Habla … [This is …]

If you can talk:

Sí, un minuto. / Un rato. / Un momento, por favor. [One moment, please.]
No corte. [Don’t hang up.]
Ahora se pone. [He’s coming.]
Le doy con él / ella. [Let me put you through.]
Gracias. / Muchas gracias. / Muy amable. [Thank you. / Thank you very much. / You’re very kind.]
De nada. / Fue un placer. [You’re welcome. / It was a pleasure.]

If you can’t talk:

Él / Ella no está. / No se encuentra. [He / She is not in.]
Está … [He / She is …] – en la escuela, oficina, universidad, piscina, biblioteca. [at school, at the office, at the university, at the pool, at the library] – en el club, shoping, dentista [at the club, at the mall, at the dentist]
En este momento no puede atenderlo(la) porque está en … [He/She can’t talk to you right now because he / she is in/at …] – una reunión/junta, otra llamada, estudiando [meeting, another call, studying]
¿Puede darme el número de allá? [Can you give me the number there?]
¿Cuál es el número, por favor? [What’s the number, please?]

If you want to leave a message:

Es que yo necesito que … [As it happens I need to …]
Por favor déjeme su número … [Please, leave me your number …]
Él / Ella lo llamará … [He / She will call you …]
en cuanto pueda / vuelva / se desocupe / termine la reunión [as soon as he/she can / comes back / is not busy / finishes the meeting]
