Moving on to our twenty second letter of the Arabic alphabet (ك), we will look at various words and phrases beginning with (ك) along with more culture/language related facts.
Let’s begin with looking at your basic forms of the letter ك.
Initial كـ, as in the word “كَبير” meaning “big”.
Medial ـكـ , as in the word “سُكَّر” meaning “sugar”.
Final ـك, as in the word “مَلِك” meaning “king”.
Before looking at the following words and phrases, can you think of words beginning with ك?
🎇Let’s begin with two very useful phrases in Arabic that begin with ك.
كيفَ حالُكَ؟ “How are you?”
أنا بِخَير، وأنتَ؟ “I am well, and you?” (response)
!كُل عام وأنت بِخَير “May you be in good health every year!” is the literal meaning, but this phrase can be used to wish someone a happy birthday, wish someone a happy Eid, happy Ramadan, happy mother’s day, etc.
.وأنت بِخَير “And may you be in good health as well.”(response)

كوب and كأس: cup/glass هل تُريد كوب مِن الحَليب؟
Would you like a glass of milk?
كَذَبَ: to lie .لا تُكَذِب علي، اخبرني الحَقيقة Don’t lie to me, tell me the truth.
كَسَرَ: to break .أنا آسِف لأني كَسَرْتُ نَظارتك I’m sorry I broke your glasses.
كَلْب: dog .أعتقدُ أن القِطَط حيوانات أليفة أفْضَل مِن الكِلاب I think cats are better pets than dogs.
كانَ: was .كانوا يَتَسَوقون عندما بدأ الثَلج يَتساقَط
They were shopping when it started to snow.
Note: Remember to conjugate كان according to the pronoun. For example:
أنا takes كُنتُ
أنتِ takes كُنتِ
نَحْنَ takes كُنّا, etc.
كُل: all/each/every .تَشرَب القَهوة كُل صَباح She drinks coffee every morning.
كَتَبَ: to write .كَتَبَت كتاباً عَن اللُغة العَرَبية
She wrote a book about the Arabic language.
كَثير: many/much/ a lot .هُناكَ الكَثير مِن الذُباب في الخَارِج
There are too many flies outside.
كَلِمَة: word كَم عَدَد الكَلِمات في هذه الجُملة؟
How many words are in this sentence?
كَوْكَب: planet هل تُفَضِل أن تَعيش على كَوكَب المَريخ؟
Do you prefer to live on planet Mars?
كارِثة: disaster .سيكون هُناك المَزيد مِن الكوارِث الطبيعية في المُسْتَقْبَل
There will be more natural disasters in the future.
كُرَة: ball .كُرة القَدَم هي رياضتي المُفَضلة Football is my favorite sport.
كَنيسة: church .زُرتُ العَديد مِن الكَنائِس الجَميلة في روما
I visited many beautiful churches in Rome.
ٱلْكَعْبَة: Referred to as ٱلْكَعْبَة ٱلْمُشَرَّفَة meaning “Honorable Ka’bah” is a building at the center of Islam’s most important mosque, The Great Mosque of Mecca ٱلْمَسْجِد ٱلْحَرَام, meaning “The Sacred Mosque”, in Saudi Arabia. It is the most sacred site in Islam and is considered by Muslims to be the بَيْت ٱللَّٰه, “House of God”. One of the Five Pillars of Islam requires every Muslim who is able, to perform حَجّ, “pilgrimage” at least once in their lifetime. Multiple parts of the حَجّ require pilgrims to circle the كَعْبَة seven times counter clockwise.
✨ كَم is mainly used to ask “how much” or “how many”.
For example:
كَم سِعر هذا القَميص؟ How much is this shirt?
كَم ساعة عَملت هذا الأُسبوع؟ How many hours did you work this week?
كم شخصاً كانوا في الحَفلة؟ How many people were at the party?
كَم كتابٍ قرأت؟ How many books have you read?
🎇 الكويت: Kuwait
What do you know about Kuwait?
Kuwait was once a home of shifting بدو nomads. People would come and go and never settled for the long term until the 18th century. Kuwait City مَدينة الكويت is its عاصِمة capital and largest city. Its two land bordering countries are Saudi Arabia and Iraq.
